Am looking to decide on which games to go to this upcoming year and i try to see as many teams as possible. So one of the best ways to see several teams in a short time are the holiday tournaments. Can anyone help to inform me of all the holiday tourneys they know of and the teams that are playing in them. Any info would be great.

I found it. Andover, F.L., New Prague, Cloquet, Bemidji, Rosemount. At the heritage. I thought a Duluth team was in it maybe not.

Add Central and Buffalo and you have eight teams. That's from Centrals' school website athletic calendar

I think the Schwans Cup would be a good option. Theres a number of divisions and on the first day you should be able to see four games which would be eight teams.

I really liked going to the tournament in St Louis Park last year. All games played at same location, great competition, and was good to see some of the best teams from different conferences.

Jefferson
Benilde
Maple Grove
Moorhead
Wayzata
Elk River
Centennial
Woodbury (don't think they're returning, anyone know the 8th team this year?)

According to the BSM website, Eden Prairie will be that team. Nice precursor to the section 6AA showdown with EP, Wayzata, and BSM.

Great looking tournament. St. Louis Park should be the best of all tournaments.

St. Louis Park should be excellent, as is the Schwan Cup Gold (particularly the bottom part of the bracket):

Minnetonka
St. Thomas Academy
Blaine
White Bear Lake
Hill-Murray
Breck
Duluth East
Edina

The Silver bracket:

Rogers
Stillwater
Cretin
Lakeville South
Holy Angels
Burnsville
Roseville
Blake

Games are a bit pricey, but usually worth it.

Karl- you think that duluth event could turn out to be a top tournament [best teams] down the road, two three years from now?

To become a truly elite tournament, I think the host (Denfeld) will have to move up to AA, and probably achieve some success there. In the meantime, a lot of the big teams don't have much reason to head north to play a decent A program, especially since most of them are already comfortably in the Schwan Cup Gold or the Spring Lake Park tourney. If East were the host it might attract a few teams, but East seems content in the Schwan Cup right now.

I'd love to see an elite holiday tourney in Duluth, but for the forseeable future I think it will continue to be an above average tourney with a bunch of good-but-not-great teams.

Here's an idea for a northern MN tourney which could be played at the heritage or Amsoil Arena.

Duluth East
Cloquet
Grand Rapids
Roseau
Moorhead
Brainerd
Bemidji
Superior

Or at the new events center in Bemidji. That place would be a little smaller than Amsoil arena, 4300 vs 6700. It is a great facility!

Moorhead is in the SLP tourney and GR is in the Edina classic. Finding another weekend that would work for all these teams besides those two as well as getting Moorhead and GR to do two tournaments would be next to impossible.

Check the Hockey Hub

The guys at the Hockey Hub are working on a pretty comprehensive tournament listing...here's the link:

http://www.mnhockeyhub.com/page/show/23 ... ournaments

It's not finished yet, but it looks like it's getting pretty close...and it's huge! You can see just from the size of it how big holiday tournaments are around the state. Just about every team in the state is involved in one...

Is the Lourdes open a new thing this year? Don't remember that at all last year.

I know that there is decent interest in getting a touney going at the Bemidji facility... Not sure though, that Bji would be too interested in having Moorhead and Roseau at their tourney, seeing as they already play twice a year.

Is it just me or does it seem like the Schwan's Cup is on a downward slide? It seems like they always used to attract most of the top teams in the state. Specially in the Gold bracket. This year they have Breck joining STA making it 2 single A teams in the tourney?? I could have seen Breck playing last year in place of STA but they are going to be down significantly this year. It would have been nice to see Wayzata, Benilde or EP in it instead of the single A's and WBL who hasn't done anything for 3-4 years. JMHO.

The Gold division needs to be moved out of the X. Too big for this level of tournament. have gone there every year for the last 7 and does not matter what teams are playing, it is always cavernous....
Move them to the bigger remote rinks.

Gold division first round games are at Mariucci this year.
