I was looking at who was coming back and Maple Grove is stacked top to bottom.

Champlin Park has a very good Senior group.

Blaine and Centennial possible 3's or 4's ?

Overall the section might be down, but Maple Grove could be the best the section has put out in a while.

Erickson and Danielson are first years. Randall and Augustine are also two soon to be sophmores that would have a chance.

Exiled One....How do you feel Cammarata would do as a sophomore at Maple Grove (if that was the case) vs. Faschings numbers last year? Cammarata has never played at a level higher than his age group

Maple Grove should be the very early strong favorite for Section 5AA this coming year. They should have the top end talent, 3 strong lines that can score and contribute, and a proven goalie. Would be fun to see what MG would do if Dan Carlson was there too for his Senior year.

In my opinion Centennial will be the 2nd seed. Very strong goaltending can take you a long way. Blaine is losing a lot of good players and will have problems scoring besides Brodzinski. Champlin Park has a good Senior class, but they have lost too much to private schools and goaltending is suspect. The Section may be down as far as depth as there is usually around 4 very strong teams, but Maple Grove looks to be a top 10 team in the state heading into the season and are talented enough to be in the top 5.

As far as Maple Grove Bantams coming up: Gross likely will be the 4th/5th Defensemen and will help them for sure especially on the Power Play. Some very talented players but I don't see them making a huge impact on a very deep team. Augustine and Randall will be very good and could play 3rd line, have to pass up a lot of good Juniors. Charlie Thomsen is talented, I'm guessing starts the year on JV to play a ton in every situation and play a little bit on Varsity as 6th Defensemen. At least recently MG has not pulled up 9th Graders to play High School, they have let them develop and be leaders of the Bantam Team, so I don't think we will see how Nate Erickson or Drake Thomsen (the younger brother who may already be better then Charlie) would do at High School until their Sophomore years.

Who cares how it would negatively affect Shattuck... think about how much it would positively affect MN High School Hockey!!

If Maple Grove has allowed their top 9th graders to play a 2nd year of Bantam hockey then I like their philosophy. I understand programs like MG have the number to do this, but it's usually the parent that makes the decision for his kid to play varsity at 9th grade if given the opportunity. From a development perspective, being a leader on a strong bantam team with 30 more games and time to mature, is a better option than skating 3rd or 4th line on the Varsity. Erickson and Thomsen will contribute more in their 10th grade year playing another year of Bantams.
