What 1998 teams have signed up for the Miken Cup thus far? I have not seen a tournament bracket anywhere yet? Wonder if this will be a low or medium level tournament? We are new to AAA hockey so not suite sure. I know all the "big boys" are usually in the cities or Canada, but did not know about this one.

all I know is that the 98 legacy open team won there first game 12-1 and won there second 6-0. Play a team today who was beat by the team they beat 6-0. Very low level teams.

is that 98 Legacy team the one that won the Stars and Stripes invite. If it is what are they doing in this tourney?

no, they have an invite team and a open team. This is there open team, however, I would suspect they could hang with some of the average invite teams.

CodemanH,

LOL. A little honesty here, please. Although, the 1998 Legacy team may be labeled an "open" team by Team Legacy, by its own admission the "open" team has at least 5 invite players on it. According to the Legacy web site, there are 25 kids at each level, which means there are 25 kids at the 1998 level. Simple math tells us there may be at least 5 Legacy invite players on this weekend's Legacy "open" team. Way to go, 1998 Legacy coach. Hope you stroked your enormous ego by bringing invite players to a very weak open tournament. Put the win on your web site and the trophy on your shelf.

As for the Star & Stripes Tournament, Legacy won the OPEN part of that tournament. Remember, there were two categories in that tournament: elite and invite, which, in English, means: invite and open. The 1998 Legacy team has a long way to go before it will be considered a good invite team. As of now, the INVITE team can hang with some of the average invite teams.

Roger, instead of running down a coach for putting his team in a open, invite, or elite tournament, maybe you should have a talk with the tournament director. He's the one collecting the checks.

inthenet, Hug your coach you may win another weak tourney. He should be up for coach of the year for finding tourneys they can win. It must be all about winning or they would get into tourneys that are competative to their level. p.s. dont forget to hug your coach because he's the best, he won another "B" tourney![/quote]

This is a really nice tournament for "A" level kids - kids who traditionally have not had the opportunity to play in the summer. With the exception of the Legacy, the teams are fairly evenly matched.

When you look at the summer hockey landscape, there appears to be three levels evolving -- I (Blades, Machine, a handful of others that can compete at the national level or at least not get embarrased there), II (Snipers, Torspo, Skate to Excellence, some of Easton teams, etc) and III (newer teams like Loons, etc) -- its great that these teams have a chance to play teams of equivalent skill/development stage. Seems like every tournament has at least one team that seems to get some sort of satisfaction out of beating up on the "little guys". Or maybe they were just invited last minute to fill in for a team that dropped out.

The tourney director did a decent job this weekend and for the most part - teams were evenly matched, good times were had by kids that don't normally get to play summer hockey. I saw WAY more blow outs in Blaine a couple of weeks ago than they are seeing in St Cloud this weekend. Summer hockey is evolving in a good way - more kids are getting to play. The reality is, that wouldn't happen if it were not a money making proposition for those helping to expand it.

Inthenet,

This coach knew what he was doing. He always knows what he is doing. He wanted the WIN.

I hope you enjoy the Miken Cup Tournament trophy, coach!

please. Yes, the 4-5 lowest 'invite' players play both due to lack of numbers. It's not like they are doing all of the scoring though. I know one one of the open players has 7-8 points. Also, for all of you saying we shouldn't be in this tourney, we didn't find out we were playing in it until mid may. We got asked to play because they needed a team.

Had a close game today in the semifinals with ice edge, winning 5-4 in OT

Hey Rog, Just so your feelings aren't hurt, My son does NOT play for the Legacy and I do not even know who the coach is, but I do know that all the kids at each age level are born in the same year therefore they are allowed into this tourney.

Like I said earlier the tournament director needs to check out these teams before he allows them in.

Many folks said prior to the Independent that the 96 Legacy team was an academy team. There seemed to be a lot of familiar faces on the ice, however.

there were 4-5 due ti lack of numbers. however, it's not like they were double shifted or anything.

by the way, I'm not trying to sound like a prick or anything. just trying to clear things up. as an outsider watching the games they did get a boring and I wish we had been in a more advanced tournament. I'm not a coach therefore i have no say in what tournaments we play in.

I can only imagine how good that tournament team must be. When will we get a chance to see them play?

They play next weekend in the international cup. They won the stars and stripes "invite" division already this summer.

I guess that's my fault. I thought I'd read that it was the Academy team at the S&S and the Indy.

Codemanh,

How many points did the INVITE players account for in the 1998 Championship game? Did the Legacy coach have a powerplay unit or a penalty kill unit? If so, how many, if any, INVITE players were part of the unit(s)?

Interesting tourney choice by 96 Legacy coach and management.
