Any results from the "Showdown"?
They might need to rethink their weekend instead of going head to head with S & S. Wings teams are better than the teams they are attracting I would think

I would like to find out how the Skate to Excellence teams did up there as well. I have heard good things about that progam. Might just be plenty of summer teams to go around.

I was at that game, STE did not by any stretch of the imagination dominate that game. It was a back and forth game and the Storm was definately more physical and slowed down STE, kept most of their shots out on the perimeter of the offensive zone. STE is a good quality team though and I think they will only get better as they play together.

Mavericks were there and they are a solid team. For the 1st tournament of checking they played really well with the hitting. It got pretty physical with these 99 teams.
Fun to watch.

Maybe...but they fill it every year, and it is a good place for the tweener teams.
It seems like the younger divisions are usually deeper. Some of the teams had already won or played in open finals in other tournaments but didn't here.
Last year they had all the games on pointstreak which was nice to follow along...i wish they would post the the results.

I heard that the 99 Wings won the tourney. Wondering if they had the Metro kids playing with them that played in the Warrior Cup??
Wings website

The wings as a whole organization has seemed to take a down turn. Their website is not update, and many pages are restricted for no apparent reason. Results from their tournament are non existent. This summers version of the wings teams have not seen favorable results...but then again I have no access to their site... I see this as the beginning or the middle of the end of the wings organization.

Did they change management, or ownership of the organization? How long have they been around? Are more "summer teams " being put together up north just like in the cities?

I am not sure that is fair
The 99's played in two tournaments & finished 1 & 2nd.
The 01's played one tourny and won. I also saw them listed as playing in the Independent Invite before the easton website pulled down the '10 brackets.
The 98's have always been pretty good.
The 97's played well at the Meltdown.
But i am sure they are feeling the effects of the crop of new teams as well, LSS & the Wings historically had north of hwy 2 to themselves and that is not the case anymore.
2010 Wings Showdown

by northernlaker
To all who think the Wings are on a downturn:
1997 Wings: Very solid team who will be back in the metro in 2 weeks at the Independent. This team plays everyone who will play them and is competitive as any in the metro.
1998 Wings: Solid
1999 Wings: Warrior runner-up and Showdown champ.
2000 Wings: Middle of road
2001 Wings: Showdown champ, beat Thunder Bay / Lake Superior Stars combo 7-4 in Championship of Showdown.
The MN Northern Wings are the longest running AAA program in Northwestern Minnesota and they get the pick of kids they want. The true top end kids still go with the Wings over all others up North. Yes, they may lose a kid or two every year to the other AAA team up North but they don't lose the kids they want.

sounds like a strong summer program. do they have try-outs in the fall or winter?

They don't hold tryouts at ALL of the levels.

wings serve a purpose like every aaa team, but dont come on here and tell storys. wings were the only game in town but since the 95 team the wings record against the stars is not very good. My son wishes he could play for one of these teams but his first choice is the stars. 95 - Stars DOMINATE, 96 - Fairly even, 97 - stars won the showdown in there first year and have played multiple overtime games with the wings (call it a draw with the stars upgrades this season and they finished higher than the wings at the meltdown 2nd if i am correct), 98 - NOT CLOSE Stars are a top 3 team in the state and wings are maybe top 25. every game is running time in every game they have EVER played. 99 - Stars dominate this level. 2000 - Stars dominate this level. 2001 - Stars are far superior winning the Warrior cup by 4 goals. I will say the wings are a good organization but dont fabricate that they get the players they want because we all know the pecking order and LSS have the upper hand mainly due to the people running it and how the programs run. My kid would love to play for the stars first and then it is toss up between the bulldogs, storm, wings. We love the dogs as it is a fun enviroment!!!
Good luck to all the kids, just keep the wings thing in check

Interesting...99 LSS finish behind NW @ Warrior but dominate them???? Maybe meant historically???
Looking at Warrior Cup and Showdown 2001's...both teams won but only had one common opponent (warrior aaa). Anybody know the scores?

Check your facts on the 97 Wings vs 97 Stars. 97 Wings have
a superior team and there is no question. We shall wait and see regarding the 2001 Wings. The Thunder Bay team had a number of Stars kids playing and the Wings beat them in the Championship.
My guess is you " wish " youscould play on either team. The 95 Stars are no doubt the best of the two, but at no other level are the stars superior.
I would say they go out of there way not to play the Wings.
Check your facts my boy!
I did check my facts and here are the results

95 - Stars dominated DONE
I do wish my boy could play for the Stars. Wings not so much as he already did. The 98 Stars have and will continue to dominate the wings. I know this one for fact me boy! Your organization played their cutting game to try and beat the stars and what happend? YOU lost by 8 again.
97 - It has gone to overtime 2 times and each team won one in regulation. That is even
99 - Stars have not lost to the wings
2000 - Stars have not lost to the wings
So if you are getting ALL the top kids why is it that the last time the wings were a team that meant anything to the competitive landscape was the 88 team.
Me boy you are living in a fog!!!
Fact is 95 and 98 are not close
97 even
99 2000 Stars are in control
01 we will see if the wings ever play in a tournament that is more than showcase level.

two posts and both grinding on the wings....? hmmm...
if this were a machine vs blades thread ewe would have been thrown to the wolves.
if'n ur from the north LSS & Wings are the top dogs...it would be fun to see how either could do down south if they practiced together 3 days a week.

If the Wings are so great - why are their players leaving for other organizations? It seems like they are having a lot of fill in players from other teams. At the warrior cup, they had a different goalie? Heard it was a fill in from other coaches?
