I understand his son will be graduating so I wonder if he continues in Stillwater or moves on to the NHL coaching ranks? I just can't see him wanting to coach college since he went straight from HS to the NHL himself.

I would say he has done a pretty solid job in a tough place to win. HM takes so many of their top players ect.

Seriously though, maybe he is just content with what he is doing-coaching during the season and doing the Tourney in the spring.

It will be interesting.

Hill is hard on stillwater, W.B.L. , and woodbury. That tends to help us up in F.L. That's got to be hard on a coach when they see would be " TOP PLAYERS" Head down the street [36] to play for Hill. Not to mention get beat by them in sections.

Your boys in FL had a pretty good year. I was really expecting them to make some noise in the sections. How do they look for next year?

Actually, Highway 5 is a much quicker route.

I was thinking that if the Gophers hang on to their head coach, they certainly won't hang on to their first assistant. Since Hill is supposed to be the guy who works with the defensemen, I wonder if Housley would be a candidate to replace him?

Haven't you heard?....the pipeline from Stillwater to Hill-Murray has been closed by Coach Housely. I suspect he will stay & reap all the rewards.

How about Housley coming in as a volunteer D coach for the Gophers? I have heard that he has invested right and likely doesn't need the money. I know he has a nice crib on the St. Croix.

Bill Watson, former Hobey Baker winner is a volunteer coach for the Bulldogs ......... why not Housley?

From what I hear, the U of M D Coach is John Hill and John Hill was not a defensemen.

Phil Housely has earned more NHL points than any other American born defensemen. Up until recently, he led all American born NHL players (forwards and D) in points.

I think he could help at the U of M.

I was wondering from a recruits point of view. If my kid plays D i would think a coach like him would be quite a draw.

would a great coach be able to persuade those kids to stay at the local resident? Or build a atmosphere they wouldn't want to leave?

Rather than dwell on what he accomplished as a player, people should look at what he has done as a coach. I doubt he has any shot at coaching in a major college program, but coaches looking to hire will look at his coaching resume first. He will coaching, not playing. Has he developed players? Is he respected in the coaching community? How does he carry himself on/off the ice?

A school struggling and looking for a name, may throw him a bone. The fact that he hasn't accomplished much during his time at Stillwater has to say something. Also, the fact that he wasn't able to attract local players to play for him also says something.

I selfishly want him to stay right where he is. His presence at Stillwater makes options around him look that much better.

I doubt Lex will give up all that he has at HM for another job. People should know, he enjoys coaching hockey, but baseball is his passion. It would also be tough to give up his AD job.

If/when he does hang it up, Bill Schafhauser will slide over from the girl's program and join his brother to run the boy's team.

Tom Strehlow wasn't a goalie in high school at Mahtomedi, yet he coaches the goalies for the Zephyr's.

I would think they could put Housley right into the NHL as an assistant and he would fit right in. He was the ultimate pro hockey player. The way he took care of his body and his work ethic is legendary. I would think he would get much more respect in the NHL.
