The only way to make a case for Edina is to cite the inept play of the Skips for part of today's game or to say they'll be too tired from playing the equivalent of two games versus Hill-Murray.

These kids are young. I say the bounce back and get revenge against the Hornets for their only loss all year. Tonka 4-2 for their first state championship.

Hope I'm wrong. I went to Edina.

Hate the Cake Eaters - Tonka - 5-0... Too bad they screwed up the seeding this year; that would have been an awesome championship game...

Even though I thought Hill was the second best team in the state. I think they got the seeding right. Hill had a weaker schedule, and one of their only two losses was to Blaine. They didn't have Edina or Minnetonka on their schedule, but tough to seed them over Edina due to who they beat throughout the year.

Anyways, back to this game. I think if Minnetonka comes out flat like they did tonight they will lose. They can't expect Kruger to have a repeat performance like he did tonight. That's asking too much out of your goaltender. Minnetonka needs to be the aggresser, and play like they did during the OT sessions. I think they will have enough in the tank to pull this one out.

Minnetonka-3
Edina-2

Minnetonka vs. Edina for the state championship, I don't think it can get any better than this! This is why I love high school hockey. I'll take Minnetonka 4-2 (EN) in this one, should be fun to watch!

OOOOOOOH BOY!!! This will by far be the most epic game I have ever been to. Tonka's great but I think they're just too drained. I saw Gardiner get stopped cold by Hill's defense a few times and I have no doubt that Edina can do the same. Being a senior at Edina, I just hope our lunch-pale gang can bring home the hardwear that everybody's wanted the last few years and never got. Edina 4-3 in regulation.

The key to Tonka will be centered on Max Gardiner and his reported health issues... It is being reported he has mono symptoms.... For those that have had it before, like myself, the energy levels are drained, but you know dang well, a 70% Max Gardiner is better than 90% of all the players in the state.

If Edina uses the same type of forecheck and backcheck as it did versus Apple Valley, and apply that towards Tonka, Edina may win this game.

I tip my hat to Edina goalie, Conner Girard, who I questioned going into yesterday's game if he was the better choice over Ankeny in nets, and he played really well, including the absolutely highlight reel glove save as he was sprawling..

Tonka's Kruger made the exact same save later vs H-M..

With that said, this game will come down to the goalies and I give the slight edge to Kruger, who just seems to be on that senior mission...

2-1.... OT... Tonka...

GFD - not sure where you get your info and I don't dispute that Max G is a great player but Tonka beat Edina without Max G so I really don't think the game hinges on that. According to the stats he wasn't the big contributor in any of the three Edina games. I would say it hinges on the overall energy level of the skippers. Hope they ate and slept well. If they did I give the advantage to the Skippers

Maybe he can't believe that a team can beat the team which beat his team. Or something else.

Edina's gonna wear down an already tired team and win 34-1.

Was wondering if there was a disadvantage to playing overtime in the second semifinal. Since 1990, teams winning the second semifinal in overtime have gone 4-4 in the championship game.

Two primary examples; in '96 after playing a 5 overtime semifinal, Apple Valley went on to beat Edina in the championship. A year later, Edina beat Hill-Murray in three overtimes and then beat East the next night in the championship.

These are kids. They bounce back quicker than us old guys.

Thanks for the update info and clarification....... I was not aware of the previous games and Max's importance/lack thereof in them.....

Instead, I will agree that Gardiner may not be THE key, but an important key.

However, with all due respect Factsie, having one of your team captains at full strength, in the biggest game of the year, does have some importance, whether or not he shows up on the scoresheet.

If you're saying Tonka doesn't need him full strength and can win without him, I won't doubt you one bit.
