Shoud Squirts be done after Fargo?

I have been involved in Squirt hockey for some time now and it seems that the district tourneys are a waste of time. With the big build up to Fargo and the game limit I feel that the kids are checked out after the long ride home from Fargo. After all it has been built up to be the state tourney for squirts. We played in a district game this week and both teams looked like they didn't care. Wouldn't it be nice to have a three week period to recharge and get ready for Baseball tryouts or AAA hockey or soccer or what ever you do in the spring and or summer. Your thoughts?

All squirts or just the teams that participate in the tournament? Makes no sense for all teams to be done. I suppose individual associations could make the call, however squirt districts are kind of a learning experience for the kids as in peewees they do matter etc....

Interesting. I presume the District Tournament used to be considered the final weekend and highlight of the year. I did see a lot of MN Squirt teams did head to Fargo which is better than any State tourney except not all teams, not even all top teams, went. The Squirt season does seem to go on forever. Squirts always waited on District playoff just because associations and districts didn't have sufficient ice to play them down the same time as the PeeWees and Bantams. So, historically, now that PeeWees and Bantams are done, and they have the available ice, they fire up the District Squirt Playoffs.

Couple problems such as how to determine who will get play in fargo ? if you go playoff then takes long time. rankings ? then arguments about how they are ranked.

Also are some of the teams from other states considered in a different tier than MN teams and as such against MN and/or district rules? I dont know if this is true just asking

Actually squirt district tourneys haven't been around for a long time. I think that district 6 just started the district tourney two years ago. prior to that we would end after Fargo or have maybe one game to fill out the 35 limit.

Great thought! IF EVERY SQUIRT TEAM IN STATE WAS IN IT!!!

Hockey is becoming a year around sport -will only get longer

By next year maybe all squirt teams will be.. they upped the # this year and teams were driving to Detroit Lakes :D I am not saying that this should be billed as a state tourney for squirts. I just wish the districts wouldn't have gotten into the $ grab and set up district tourneys after most all of the upper teams are done with their season and then forced teams to play and pay.

Wouldn't be so bad for D2 if we didn't have to wait three weeks since our last league game! That's the screw up.
