AA Quarter: #4 Hill Murray (25-2-1) v. Duluth East (19-5-4)

Hill Murray and Duluth East met earlier this season on the same ice with the Pioneers coming away with a 5-1 win.

With only 2 losses this season, the Pioneers definitely have momentum as they have all season.

The Greyhounds have also not lost any of their last 12 games. Of the 5 losses they have this season, 3 are to teams playing in the state tournament.

This should be a great game.

Great night cap for the Thursday night games here. The Pioneers may have handled Duluth earlier in the year while they played in the Christmas tournament, but this one will surely be a closer game with lots of energy going both ways.

Key to the game will be for Hill-Murray to continue to use the great speed they possess while Duluth East will have to bring as much physical presence as possible to slow them down.

Anyone know who Duluth's "big guns" are this year? I'm sure the preview to the game will tell most of what I need to know, but just curious.

Good luck to everyone in the tournament, this time can't get any better for all hockey lovers in Minnesota! Best of luck to the Pioneers, too!!

Pioneers 4, Duluth East 1

In my opinion, Duluth East does not have any "big guns". Here are their stats, http://www.mnhockeyhub.com/team_instanc ... ason=16427, which may help you.

Hill has some kids that can fly. Great D. East will need to play physical hockey and get the same goaltending they got vs Elk River. I hope East comes out and shows the state how good 7AA is and will be for quite sometime. East3 hill2 ot

If this doesn't kick me in the groin...

My favorite private school team and my favorite northern team has to meet in the quarters........ Goldfishdude Jinx...

I want a 1-0 in OT game...... I will be happy with either victor... That way I know I have one team reaching the semi's...

I listened to East's blowout over Elk River, and watched the first two periods of H-M v WBL..... both teams put on clinics on how to play the game... Two awfully good coaches....

I'm very glad Hill got the 4 seed and has the late game. Anyone remember what happened last time Hill had this same scenario?

Hill 4-1 with shaughnessy and that great defense leading the way.

I'm with you but,I didn't see a lot of quality scoring chances from elk river in that game, east is playing well as a team and should give hill a game

Go Hounds

Agree on a 1-0 OT, but in DE's favor.

I think JoJo is gonna have the game of his life.

I think these are two very similar teams. Both are very deep, with 3-4 forward lines they feel comfortable playing. I have not seen Hill, but in my mind there is little to no difference between the 1st and 3rd lines for East.

Both teams also have pretty strong defensive corps, each led by a UMD recruit. Welinski missed the first meeting between these two, which should help the Hounds a bit. Both also have pretty strong goaltending. Also, two storied coaches going at it--I will definitely be watching the benches as this one goes on.

Because of the way the regular season game went, I wasn't too thrilled to see this matchup. But then, the Hounds have gotten better since December, and they've already proven me a cynic once this year, and there's no reason they can't do it again. I also got one of the teams I wanted in the 1st round last year, and we all know how that turned out.

I am glad it's the late game; that's my favorite time slot in the quarterfinals, and it should make for a great atmosphere.

Karl, you should thrilled with this match up. You haven't been real high on Hill all year and if you're not a seeded team, you might as well get the bottom of that group. Hill is an average team that is over-rated because of their soft schedule. The way the Hounds have played down the stretch, and the fact that they are looking for payback from the earlier game with Hill, I gotta believe the Pioneers may actually be the underdog in this match up.

True Dat. I'm sure the pretenders in green will got smacked about by a superior northern team. The good news is when HM is down by 8 early in the 2nd, we can all go home as it is the last game of the evening. How can we hope to compete?

Wow with 5 goals and 23 assists on the year (almost twice as many as 2nd place Lutzka with 12) Coach Randolph must be giving his kid an assist everytime someone scores.

East 4 - Hill 2 Woodshed schooling for the private boys. :P

Hill has the cupcake section of the state. Funny how you 'citiot' boys never whine about that.

I was born and raised on the East Side so my dislike for Hill Metro is 30+ years and running but I don't think DE has the guns as much as I'd like to see them win.

I'm hoping for a Tonka vs. Hill semi-final game so Tonka can take them to the woodshed... that would make my weekend. I'll ignore the "citiot" nonsense for now.

Hill's section is probable 2nd easiest after 1AA.
