White Bear Lake is playing 15 minute periods in their JV games. I thought the Minnesota High School League set JV and Varsity games with 17 minute periods. Am I wrong?

ilivegreen - Not true, look at the link below under rule modifications. Why wouldn't the teams want to play 17 minute periods????

My understanding is that if they chose to play 17 minute periods for JV, they lose the option for an overtime. Most coaches would rather have an overtime if needed.

Usually the JV periods are governed by the home team, in addition to varsity warm up needs as well as starting game time.

15's allow some leeway for OT if needed, where 17's do not.
