Holy cow........ This may be one of the biggest surprises of recent memory, because for the most part, Alex Fons has been sensational in goal for Hopkins. Tonka got thru with 10 goals on 30 shots on Fons.. How??

Remember, this is the same team and goalie who allowed 5 goals to Mound-Westonka in a 5-4 loss. A Mound team who averages 2.00 goals a game and their top 3 scorers have combined for 36 points.

The same team that allowed a 7 spot against Lakeville South and Eagan. So if the best team in the state brings their A game, then 11 sounds about right. I realize everyone is in love with the Fons but the team in front of him is quite bad.

Pulled him after the 10th in the 2nd period. As bad as Hopkins is, he played a brutal game.

I think it is just more surprising, because Tonka only beat Hopkins 5-2 two weeks ago, Fonz played pretty well in a 3-3 Edina game, and stopped 50 shots in a 5-3 loss to Wayzata this past Thursday......

I could be mistaken, though I believe he saved 22-30 shots. Not 20-30.

I think both the Hopkins and Edina games against Tonka are just evidence that when the Skippers bring their A game - you don't want to be on the other side of the faceoff - no matter who you are or how good you are - and its really ugly if that happens to be the night your team fails to show up!

Well said dog. When the Skippers don't show up your best case is a tie. When they do show up it is over before it starts... I thought my STA homies showed up both nights we played them and still we got dismantled..

The Skips are a team where it is very good news for the rest of the state that the state tourney is a "one and done" format. The only hope against the Skips is an upset. I don't believe anyone could take them in a double elimination or other format...

shouldn't they have backed off after the 7th or 8th goal?

Skippers don't "show up" = best case tie. So by your logic, Tonka is unbeatable.

they have to be beatable. they won the schwan cup...thus, they will not win a state championship this year.

"shouldn't they have backed off after the 7th or 8th goal?"

I would consider 3 SOG's by the Skippers in the 3rd period as "backing off"
