What is the Squirt Selects? Any info??

It is where coaches get their kids together to play all-star hockey.

OK seriously ...
There are 3 - 4 different all-star tournaments (Selects, Classic, Super Series) held at the end of March and beginning of April (between the end of association hockey and the beginning of AAA type hockey).
Usually a coach or two applies to the sponsoring league, is picked, and forms a team at an age level of their kid. They recruit kids from other nearby associations to play. Often once that coach gets at age level team it is difficult to replace them.
Some coaches/teams evolve and grow from year to year as player development changes from kid to kid. Most comeptitive.
Some coaches run the same team each year and you can see this type of "hand-shake" team struggle. These teams fall in competitiveness over time.
Finally some teams form by a coach needed in desperation to fill out the four teams needed at each age level. These teams typically fail completely.
Fun experience, but not cheap.
The only way for your son or daughter to play is to get asked ... if you trust your player's head coach and your player is one of the top players on the team ... ask them to help you get on a team.
When you see "select" teams with more than a couple players from one association or more coaches than players ... is it really an all-star team?

it is $185 for about 4 hours of practice 4 games and a COOL Jersey. My kids have done both the MN selects and the Super Series.. both were fun and they met some new buddies that they now play against during the year... I would recommend either of these tourneys and Coaches do try to get the best players that they can at each level.
