Phantom Goal Scorers

You know those players that i am talking about. They seem to get credited with a goal, when they weren't even around it. We all know refs mess up, and its suppose to get fixed later, however, they take credit for it later on also. i know a player who was told over and over again that stats don't matter. So he would drop trying to get it fixed( even when the films showed that he had the goal!)He had been the victim of that phantoms goal taking. To make the long story short. In the end this player who was a ranked player, played on numerous elite teams, was overlooked for an all conference nomination and the phantom scorer was given the credit. This player knew he wasn't the favorite in the coaches eyes, and the phantom could do no wrong. So, why do people say stats don't matter, when in reality, they do!

Enough bashing Benik!! Phantom goals are just part of the game, he didn't pick the schedule.

Had nothing to do with Benik! player I was referring to is from the south/east conference, a couple of years ago. Question is about stats, and do they matter, or even better how to get it changed when a coach seems to help padding?

Settle down...this sounds personal, somebody steal goal from ya? Its just one of those things that happen and not much can or will be done.

nope, nothing to do with me. hearing it happen all over, from the girls teams to the boys again. Question, do stats matter, not personal by any means, just questioning?

Wins/Losses...only stats that Really matter. I am the team manager for my sons U16 team, I record player stats for fun. I asked the coach a couple games ago if I could pass a stat sheet around for the boys to look at and he said no, the only stats he cared about were wins and losses. I think 99% of the coaches would agree with that. I mean is a player truly happy at the end of a game when he gets a point or two but loses the game? Most likely not, or shouldnt be anyway. I know my son usually only talks about the goals he scores when they win, when they lose and he scores he is less likely to bring it up.
