Does anyone remember the name of the book that was written about Bool Jeff hockey?
The writer followed the team for a season and then wrote a book about it

The book is Blades of Glory by John Rosengren and he covered the 2000-2001 Jefferson team.

Just finished reading this book several weeks ago. This book isn't just about Bloomington Jefferson hockey....it really is about Minnesota High School Hockey at the highest levels. It should be required reading for all parents with kids entering the high school ranks.

It covers the whole season:

Tryout processes - from the cutting of seniors to the conduct of parents whose kids were cut (I won't spoil the stories here)

Drug/performance enhancers use - From chewin tobaccy on the bus home from the game to taking ephedrine.

Parents coming to terms with their kids limited abilities - In youth hockey, they demanded fairness...some don't understand that high school hockey is no longer about self-esteem, but about winning the prize.

The journey to make D1 - and the ultimate failure of most to even get a sniff of USHL.

School Pressures - from academics to classmate pressure to achieve.

Private Schools - from "recruiting" allegations to private school decisions to elevate their schools into 'athletic excellence' programs to increase enrollments.

Youth hockey and its role of feeding talent to the program.

A great read and highly recommended for parents of high school hockey players to get a better understanding of what goes on behind many of the decisions and locker room doors.

In the process of reading it right now...also have River of Champions on reserve at the library.

It's so much a "Friday Night Lights" of Minnesota High School Hockey that the author thanked Buzz Bissinger in the intro.

Enjoy the read - it's very well done and is about more than just the Jags.

By far the best book I've ever read, I've read it 3 times just because it's such a good book. Captures what it truly means to be a hockey player.

Yep, I'm in the "recruiting wars" section talking about the strained relationship between Trebil and Saterdalen...and between the coaches and the parents in both programs.

Great read for the true high school hockey fan, if anyone really wants to understand what it is like to play in a big time program this book will give you that perspective.
