Your kids don't need $180 skates and a $100 stick no matter what your tax bracket is
Where are these prices at?
Yell like crazy during the game. Say whatever you want. Scream every kind of inane instruction you want to your kids. They can't hear you.
Not true. Maybe with some kids. I know parents who can communicate with their players probably better then their coaches while on the ice and from any point on the rink. Communication is not all verbal and a hand sign or look at the clock pre-arranged can send immense data to the child. Ever see a kid forget that they are on a penalty kill or that their is very little time left in the period?

Dog...IT MADE MY SATURDAY MORNING to READ THIS !!
ATTENTION: Previous Bloggers, please re-read if you thought it was about stick prices and about how much you know while standing on the top rail at your kids game. Re-read if you take the long ride home after a loss instead of going to breakfast.
'Hit by an SUV...and played that night' ....now that's funny!

I forwarded this to every hockey parent i know. Good article.
As for the person talking about hand signs and whatnot. Get a clue. Thats ridiculous. If you want that much to do with whats going on, then coach a team that your son/ daughter isnt on. Please stop doing this for the sanity of your child. I bet you think the coach doesnt know what hes doing too. Dont you?

Okay...Please explain the long illogical circuitous route that you took to come to that conclusion.
Just because you claim or say it doesn't happen doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I know people that do it. I have seen it happen all over the place. Some of the biggest offenders were coaches and ex coaches parents.
I also know people who smoke dope, cheat on their taxes, cheat on their spouses too. Doesn't mean I do it, or condone it. Get the jist of the message.
Personally I don't care what you think of what I think of the coach...but for the record we have probably exchanged a grand total of 20 words all season. If you can deduce that from a monitor and a message posted on a forum all I can say is "Whoa am I impressed"
I always like how parents get lumped into the "Your bad", "Leave it to the coaches" category. The ideal hockey team is a busload of orphans. Quick side note..Coaches come and go, get fired, leave and some are very successful. The children will usually only have one set of parents. While coaches may get the child for 10 hours a week, someone else is looking after them the other 158. I am sure you can do the math.
Just for the record. I have coached too. We never finished less then second on any team I coached so there that blows that assumption for you too.
But I will use your own words to back up my point.

I have seen these small habits in these kids since they were Pee Wees and bantams, and nobody has shown them the proper way, and in turn when yelled at by a coach to quit taking stupid penalties, it turns to immediate resentment towards the coaching staff, and begins a vicious cycle.
One reason I have long suspected that some parents coach from the sidelines, rafters, bleachers...wherever. The coaches either don't recognize it, or don't properly coach it, or are just not getting it done.
but it seems clear to me that these kids are not being brought through the ranks by the proper personell, and however far they make it in there hockey careers is from talent alone, and thats a sad fact.
I intentionally omitted the organization above. But that is all the proof in the pudding summed up nicely by you. Thank You very much.

Great point. As a parent that #1 played a high level[state college late 80's]#2 have 5 that play hockey[from the high school program down to mites] I feel like it is my right\ privlidge to discuss and,or evaluate my sons performance. My oldest both last year at the banam A, and this year at the high school level asks me my opinion. [dad what can I do to get better out there?]Should I just say " I can`t coment I don`t want to infringe on your coach" ? what about my mite when he is not getting corrected for tripping other little kids on the ice? Give me a break I pay for it I will put in my two cents worth. No pun intended.
