Does anyone know the MSHSL rule regarding a coaches interaction with players in what is considered the off season, I know the summer is alright for them to be coaching but i know there is a rule in place when another sport is in season, such as football season right now.
Can anyone give me specifics or to what extent they can interact with players. i.e. Captains Practice, and Pre Season meetings.
Thanks

No witch, no hunt. Just a simple question I was thinking about. Thought some people on here were helpful...guess not.

The way I understand it is that the coaches can be involved in the summer until July 31st and then not until season starts, this year being Nov. 16th.

I think starting next year there is also a seven-day window around the fourth of July when there can be no contact. Also, I think they may have adjusted when the "summer" starts. not sure what the exact ruling is.

Coaches can be involved in any off season development activities (open gym, weight lifting, spinning, etc) as long as their not specific to their sport.
And high school coaches, by definition, are teachers and most likely will be aware of the way their students represent their program and always have a right to say something regarding grades or off-season behavior. Just as any other teacher does.
They can have non-mandatory meetings with the kids and they can attend captain's practices (as long as they're not coaching).
I think the key is that any off-season activity has to be non-mandatory and the student cannot be punished for non-participation said activity.
