Goalie Coaches clinic

I attended the Minnesota Hockey/Steve Carroll Goalie Coaches Clininc the other night. Just wanted to highly recomend it for coaches or goalie parents. I am a strong believer in having an assistant dedicated to the goalies and at least 15 min of every practice dedicated to goalie coaching (ussualy when skaters are doing their skills drills) and not just using the goalie as a target. This clinic can give you the basic knowledge to be that assistant for a team or to teach someone to be that assistant.

I first went to this clinic when it was first offered and my goalie was still in squirts. I have had the opportunity to work with many goalies since. 15 min a practice over the course of a year can really transfom a player. I watched 2 U12 practices last night at a dual rink while waiting for my daughters game to start. At both practices the goalies were left on thier own or skated in the regular player drills and then took shots with no instruction. Those goalies have little or no chance of having a big developement year. 15 min a practice 5 or 6 core drills working on just a few skills and those same kids will be ready to steal a few games for you.

I don't really know Steve or Justin Johnson (who also presented) and I am not affiliated with MN Hockey. I just really like to see coaches working with and not ignoring thier goalies. We can and should do alot better in Minnesota with this important position. Plus this clinic works for level 3 REcert.
