Leddy among all time greats?

How do you think Nick Leddy ranks among the all time greats of minnesota high school hockey. What he accomplished in one year was amazing and his draft position shows what a star he really is. How do you think he stacks up against the all time greats of high school hockey?

Leddy is excellant and moving forward may move up "my" list. But I would put him behind:

Henry Boucha
Phil Housley
Neal Broten
John Mayasich

That is a start of a list there are many more that pop into my head Kreiger, Shelstad, Antonovich, Spehar... Nick had an excellant year last year and not tryng to take anything away from him the times are differnt today then in previous times. More NHL teams, more first round draft picks, more exposure for MN kids, accecptance of non Canadiens playing in the NHL...

Lets hope for great things in the future.

Don't put Leddy in the same league with the likes of Broten. If Leddy comes out and has a decorated career in the NHL then I might consider him one of the greats.

I believe he meant as a high school player only. Few Minnesota hockey players (if any) can ever touch what Broten did. NCAA Championship, Olympic Gold and Stanley Cup.

For a defencemen Leddy had a good high school career playing in a tough conference and played well in the state tournament.

These are different times. Keep in mind, there is more competition for NHL spots than ever before. The NHL has become a global game featuring players from many countries. U.S.A. Hockey registration includes kids from almost every state.

Hanowski couldnt even get his team out of the quaretr finals for 4 years Class A. A guy with so much supposed talent should have at least maybe took his Flyers on his back to at least one runnerup. Nice schedule too. No AA schools I dont think of any mention.

Hard to say with Leddy one of best all time. He had 1 great year his senior year. I think hes one of those late bloomers who will have a couple great years at the U and then off to the AHl and NHL. If you are talking strictly great high school career not projection I dont think he makes the lsit if you go back in history because many great high school guys were great 3,4,5 years or a couple and left. Bonnin, Guyer,Malwitz,Micheletti,
Rothstein,Scott Bloom ,Bill Baker, Marc Pavelich, Neil Sheehe,Verchota,Chapman,Erdall Millen, Sandelin, Crowley,Kilpatrick, Falcone,Mcalpine,Hankinsons,Butsy Erickson,Waible, ballard, martin, leuppold, goligoski, schoreder, delich, harrington, niskanin, sachettie, bugstad, bianchi etc etc etc 2,3,and some cases 4 great great high school careers. The question was greatest alltime high school.
I would even say that Anders Lee and guys Like Nick Oslund etc had much better high school careers than Nick

He will however in my opinion play more NHL games than most of those guys listed.

The question asked is "High School Greats", not NCAA accomplishments or successful NHL careers.

Leddy is in the top 10 of the last decade, maybe the top 5. He was a great HS player.

Leddy notched a goal in the Gopher's exhibition game versus British Columbia today.

Without putting a lot of thought into it, he doesn't make my top 10. Might crack the top 20 if I really thought it out.

10. Cullen
9. Pohl
8. Guyer
7. Crowley
6. Martin
5. Housley
4. Boucha
3. Broten
2. Mayasich
1. Spehar

Could someone please list every accomplishment that Leddy had his senior year. I'm having a tough time figuring out why his HIGH SCHOOL career is better then Ben Hanowski's. I don't care about where they both played, but as far as decorated players, nobody has more than Hano. right now.

A Mr. Hockey award? I think that and a state championship make him a little bit more decorated than Hanowski.

Good try though.

Very nice high school carreer. No question on that. However, he has done NOTHING yet at college level, let alone the NHL. Maybe give the lad a few years and see how he turns out? The Brotens were stars in the NHL, this young man is not even CLOSE to that yet. Give him some time. As for Hanowski, the same thing applies, nice high school carreer, has not done anything yet to make him a "All time great". Have some patience people.

Ok.. Since I am always the voice of reason. Craig Johnson of Hill Murray. Drafted 2nd round for the Blues in early 90s (when less teams) played for the Gophers, US Olympic team, scored last goal ever at old Mucci arena, first goal ever at new Mucci arena, first goal ever in St. Louis's and Chicago's new arena AND - and - I don't care who you are - but if you are one of just three players traded for Wayne Gretzky (when Gretzky was traded from LA Kings to St. Louis), you have to be special...

You just solidified your position as "voice of reason"! :)

I always shake my head when folks try to compare stars from Huge AA schools who play in great conferences to those who play in small A schools against a weak conference. In my mind they are more alike than different. The only way we could really tell is to have them switch schools, and that wouldn't work either, because they would not have their support systems they have had in place their whole lives. In my mind, I would think the great player who plays on a team with other good players will have more success than that same player playing on a poor team. Teams in large school conferences all have about the same amount of "good" players, just as teams in small school conferences have about the same amount of "good" players, so I believe that's a wash. A player can only do so much, hockey is a team sport, I doubt Leddy could have done as well playing defense for Little Falls without Hanowski on the team, but I would have to believe Hanowski would have been just as good or better playing for Eden Prairie, even though they might not have won the state championship without Leddy playing defense!

You are an idiot. There is no way Hanowski would have near as many goals playing against the teams EP plays against, even with EP's team. Obivously Hanowksi would have done better on EP, if he played Little Falls' schedule, but if he played EP's schedule, he would have had nowhere near the same production

Nice name-calling in a forum where open expression is displayed. The fact is we have no idea. You can not know what you say is correct, just as I can not know I am correct, It is my opinion, just as yours is yours. You can not tell me we would have even heard of Leddy if he had been playing defense on the Little Falls team without Hanowski.

Mr. Leddy is a fine talent, and he may be the best player of this decade out of HS, but it sure is hard to pass on the stars of different eras. Paul Holmgren was a beast in the 70s, Stauber, Bjugstad... the list is endless. But my vote is for Housley. In an era that was 80% Canadien dominated, for a kid to step out of HS to the NHL, shows how gifted he had to be, at the position he played, for as long as he played.
