Do any other associations do what St.Cloud is doing this year?

Bantam tryouts are the first week of October.
Teams will practice together, scrimmage, set up lines etc. for six weeks until November 16th.
Thats when local high schools have their tryouts.
The association has stated that they will try to avoid having any games scheduled that week.
If any bantams want tryout for the high school teams they can.
If they make one of the three local high school team they leave, if the don't make the team; they come back to Bantams.
I just think its very odd that an Association would agree to potentially juggle the lineups of three of their three oldest teams six weeks into the season for a handful of players who think they might want to tryout for high school.
They have opportunities all summer to skate with their high school programs to see where they fit. The three HS coaches have stated that they only are interested in Bantam eligible players who can make the Varsity, not the JV.

here is some possible reasoning

it maybe a good experience for 9th grade bantams to do the tryout process for high school

the high school league cannot do their tryouts until a certain date, i.e. fall sports

if the boy in bantams doesn't do assoc tryouts, what if they don't make varsity as a 9th grader? Not play?

associations can move a b kid up to A, or go with a smaller team

most the kids know whom on their bantam team will make varsity as 9th grader. In larger assoc and schools these kids usually are locks to make h.s. and not 4th liners.

the kids are in high school at 9th grade in many cases, they should be allowed to tryout.

8th graders in many cases probably are not trying out or allowed to do so.

a high school coach probably will not take a 9th grader to play jv unless they don't have bantam eligibility left.

when a player is trying out for h.s. they are not allowed to practice or play with their association team

a smart district would not allow bantam games during high school tryout week. If they do contact your district director immediately.

There is not a Mn Hockey rule about a player trying out for Highschool and still playing with the youth team, that is a high-school rule.

correct, either way once tryouts start they cannot play association until cut. Which in many cases is day 1.
