How does the new participation rule benefit you specifically?
Still trying to figure out who benefits.

So far, no benefit to our house, we play where we live AND go to school.
I am going to ask around to see how it may benefit or hurt our association as most of the kids are like us, they live and go to school in the same "community" but not all, have to see how it affects the cats and dogs.

My kid has one year left of association hockey. Now she has a choice to play with her new friends who she'll be playing with in HS, or one last year to have fun with her old friends she's been playing with for a long time. It'll be a hard choice to make, but one where there really isn't a bad decision. It's kind of nice.

Same here no effect on us either. However, I do know of a handfull of kids that live outside of our association but go to school with our kids in our area. They will have the choose to leave their current association and come play with us this year.
I spoke with one "affected" dad just last week who hadn't realized the rule changed and really wasn't sure what to do or what his son would want to do. I think most wll be in that camp. Over the next 6-8 weeks, the average family that this affects will come to learn about the rule change and mull it over for days if not weeks. But eventually, sign up day will arrive and they will have to choose.
I bet it will be a more difficult choice that most people expected.

my grandson attends a private school ( middle school) his association doesn't even know he is not eligible to play for them this year. I told my daughter about the rule, she contacted the registrar... he is planning to go to the local public high school, but has attended private elementary and middle.... now he is forced to leaves his peers, unless a waiver is granted.
I don't see the private school hockey association granting a waiver so he can play with his association of residence... which is at a different caliber of play overall.
