How does this affect MN? Is or can MN teams be included in this tournament?

Thanks for sharing. Minnesota teams could play if they have the blessing of Minnesota Hockey, win the state tournament, and conform to the age requirement.
My guess is that Minnesota Hockey won't register the state.

It's a shame this doesn't happen anymore. MN Hockey used to send the Bantam A state champion to Nationals and they usually had very good success against "All star" teams.

Cost - Benefit
Cost is high, benefit defined by enjoyment - excitement is very low.

I think it's kind of funny an old guy with a flannel shirt from way up north has gotten to decide cost/benefit and excitement for kids all over the state.

Yikes, are the gloves gonna come off over this? When was the last time MNH sent a team to regional or national play (discluding SSM)?

I was not the one deciding.
But that was the reasoning at the meeting that I attended as an observer.
And it came from parents and players that had attended.
So, sorry, I may have decided that way, but I was not a MH board member at that time.
So, how would you define it and based on what experience?

And by the way, things are decided for people by others all over the place on a lot more serious decisions then playing hockey.
But on the hockey level, just think of the decisions that are made by others.

But to answer the thread question, if someone would like to participate, the first step would be to make a presentation to the MH board.

I played in it in the Mid-90's and it was an awesome experience as a player.

Not only do we not get to participate in Nationals, we do not get to participate in the SilverStick tournaments due to the age classification of our winter teams. Too bad, it is a great experience that will not be enjoyed by our MN teams, which, by-the-way, had great success when we did send participants to the tournament.

Yes, a lot of the thrill of playing the Silver Stick and US National championships was playing against the All star teams of other states and beating them. Many times the other teams were left wondering "who is this team from Bloomington, Anoka, Duluth, Osseo, etc..."

That was a good bantam team and we thought they would be the HS champs.

Not necessarily an omen for future success. I believe the Fargo Flyers won the tourney in the late 70s(or some other national bantam Tournament), and never did anything in high school. Fargo North dominated in the early 80's and did not have one kid who played on that Flyer team. This was ND, not MN so the bar was not set that high.

It's a pretty good indicator in Moorhead, where there is one high school and kids don't leave to head to Benilde, Blake, Breck, Totino, Hill Murray, St. Thomas Academy, etc...

Great insight, where would they leave to go to in Moorhead?

I would think the commute might get a bit long...

Not often because the HS program is good and has a shot every year.
But there are kids that move there.

No longer than say, Marshall to Richifield?
