Camping Spots

Our family started camping last year and had a blast. We are going again this year and wonder if anyone out there has any family friendly camping recommendations.
Last year, we stayed at Banning State Park and enjoyed the trails, stayed at McCarthy Beach State Park and had fun boating on the lake, stayed at Jay Cook State Park and even though it rained most of the weekend we still had fun.
This year we are thinking of going to Forrestville/Mystery Cave State Park and the headwaters of the Mississippi.

You want to go farther up on the North Shore,Tettegouche,Temperance River are both awesome campgrounds,onsight bathrooms,showers etc. We`ve camped at these for many many years with our kids,lots of beautiful scenary,tons of trails for hiking,like fishing...bring your poles. Stop at Lous in Two Harbor and pick up some jerky or smoked fish,hit Beaver Bay stop at the Lemon Wolf or Northern Lights for lunch. Stop at Lusten and ride the Alpine Slide,hit Grand Marais for dinner,Sven and Oles great pizza,Angry Trout,Wild Onion Café,World's Best Donuts,Blue Water Cafe,Java Moose for an after dinner coffee or mocha.

Anywhere in the Boundary Waters where you can get far enough in to have a lake (or at least a large portion of one) to yourself.
The Superior Hiking Trail has some very nice spots along the route too.
These are the sorts of things you miss when you go far away to a big city.

If ya want ann overall great vacation start by jsut driving up through Duluth to get to Grand Marais. Make sure you stop for Sven and Oles for dinner and Worlds Best Donuts for breakfeast. Then go up the Gunflint Trail. Great camping, fishing, and hiking. We usually do this about once a summer and always stay at Gunflint Pines on Gunflint Lake. Nice people and good tent sites or cabins.

If your headed up that way, make sure to pack your golf clubs. Superior National at Lutsen is a decent course at an affordable price.

That is a great spot to go. I highly recomend it if you like hiking, canoeing,fishing and some awesome views that is the place to go.
