Both teams swept their first round playoff series. The Bulldogs took both games from CC in Colorado Springs, while the Gophers beat SCSU at Mariucci.

The Gophers are 1-0-1 against UMD this year.

Who wins, and why?

Gophers are on a roll. This should be a fun game to watch..... if you like offense. I think this will be a blow out. This will set up a rematch of the 2007 Final five championship game in the 2nd semi on Friday. Should be a great 2nd week in a row of hockey at the X.

I'm not sure about a blowout, but Kangas is back.
Gophers will move on.

The Dogs play much better on the smaller ice sheet than they do the Olympic size...gotta give that edge to UMD. However, Kangas has played better late. Stalock had a great series against CC

I'll take Stalock over Kangas. If UMD shuts down Stoa they will move on. I see UMD's defense being able to do that.

That's why you gotta love Gopher fans--they think having Kangas pulled against a horrendous Michigan Tech team, and then almost losing game 1, and beating a below average SCSU team to be on "a roll." UMD has better defense and goal tending, and the scoring, at this stage of the season, is the same. The only thing the Final 5 is good for is to give the also rans of the WCHA, like the U and UMD, a chance to make the NCAA's. The loser of the Thursday game is out of the NCAA's. The only other thing it is good for is to see which team, Denver or UND, will be a number 1 seed, and there's no benefit to being a #1 seed and get stuck playing at the U this year for either of them.

Kangas is going to have to be on in order for the gophers to advance, something he has struggled doing lately

He played great this past weekend, hopefully he keeps it going.
I've watched Ellingson over here in Green Bay a couple of times this year.
He's been tough.

I'm sorry were you watching the same gopher team as i did on friday night? I was at the game and said the gophers were lucky to sneak out of there with a win. Kangas dropped at least 4 shots into his glove. IF the gophers manage to sneak out of their play in game they WILL NOT make the NCAAs because they WILL lose the next 2. Kangas looks good but not nearly what he was last year. UMD is playing well and I think this will be a great chance for them to play the goofs on a smaller sheet of ice.
4-2 Dogs

Both teams are coming off good weekends. Will be a close one. Home ice should be enough to advance the Gophs.

Dawgs - 2
Gophers - 3

I understand the home ice argument but dont we all know that the arena will likely be split:
1/2 Gopher fans
1/2 UMD, UND, UW fans
And it's not on an olympic sheet so i vote home ice advantage a wash.

Both of these teams need to win a couple of games at the end here.
That's what they get for playing subpar hockey most of the season.
Minnesota, Duluth, and Wisconsin are exactly where they deserve to be.

UMD with some pressure over a minute left, Gophs trying to clear the zone and get Patterson pulled, UMD not letting them.

45 seconds.

Patterson is out of the net. Ten seconds left.....puck deep in the Gophs zone, up ice for one last rush.....

Dogs win!!

A fun game to watch. These are two good teams, and there still is a chance they both find a way into the tourney (with no upsets around the country). UMD has to win one game and they're in, Wisconsin has to win the tourney, and Minnesota needs UND or Denver to win it and some help out east. The Bulldogs will definitly give the Sioux a game, that's for sure. I'm looking foward to it.
