any clues on who and how many this is going to effect? or is it a couple of small moves?

Obviously, we won 't know for sure until Wednesday, but the expectation was that changes would be minor, especially compared to the significant moves made two years ago. Also, this realignment is supposedly going to last for four years, not just two, which I think is a good move.

Any new opt ups?

After opt ups are made, why aren't the smallest schools moved down to A to have a 64 team AA class?

I'll believe that when I see it.

Agreed, I don't think it's happening. Besides they have to prove they can get to state in A again first.

I really hope they don’t realign the sections that drastically. I hate the fact that there are a couple of sections that are extremely top heavy (2AA/6AA), but I would really like to see some rivalries built(not that there already is some big rivalries). For example, section 5A when benilde, totino, blake, and breck. It was always fun watching those teams play, especially during sections.

If STA is opting up, any chance they will get assigned to 1AA? When was the last time any team from this section did much of anything at the state tournament.

If STA is opting up, they would probably be in 3AA with Woodbury. Just a guess.

2007 is a long time ago. Rochester Century defeated Burnsville for 3rd.

I wouldn't think so. If sections would stay the way they are for the most part with minor changes. East Ridge would be put in 3AA by default because Park and Woodbury are in there, I don't think they would add both unless they plan on moving teams out and giving everything a pretty good shake up.

Guess we just have to wait and see on Wednesday for the changes.

I wouldn't be suprised to see Hastings move down to 1AA. Basketball, Baseball, and a couple of others are already down there.

1AA - no one can opt down so the number of teams remains at 10, since every section has to be within 2 of the other sections you can't add a team without moving a team.

LeSeuer doesn't fit geographically with 1AA and should be in the 8 team 2AA, John Marshall was the 63rd biggest AA school last time and with Duluth Central closing making East an AA school and probably Denfeld and with Eastridge opening up 3 schools should move ito AA that weren't last season. Northfield/Artech is the biggest 1A school at 1296. The cutoff was beteween Cretin @1318 and Northfield @ 1296 (there could have been a co-op between Cretin and JM and Cretin opted up, but JM was still the 63rd largest school)

Enrollments as of this year:
Century 1676
North 1674
South 1670
Mayo 1628
Owatonna 1528
Farmington 1436
John Marshall 1366

Winona + Cotter 1567 (St. Charles is also with Winona but they can't drop Cotter so I only included them)
Dodge Cty Co-op 1576
LeSeuer Co-op 1450

Word is JM had to decide whether to opt up or not, if they are still an AA school then no one will get moved in, if they are a 1A school or opt up then odds are someone will get moved in. Northfield would be the team if they're AA but seeing as they're smaller than JM I doubt they will be. The 2 closest teams are Hastings and Rosemount from 3AA, 3AA has 9 teams now plus Eastridge should come in there as well so it would be an easy and logical move. Hastings is also in Adminstrative region 1AA and as said above already plays other sports with 1AA teams come sections. The bad part would be adding Hastings or even Rosemount does nothing to make 1AA any better, Rosemount finished behind the two Lakeville schools this season and Hastings had a losing record as well. The odds of a sub .500 team making the state tournament would go up, the complaining would then also go up. The more intriguing option would be if St. Thomas choose to opt up, they're in 1AAA for basketball. STA has said in the past they have no inclination to move up though.

Hill is staying in 4AA. They love ending White Bear's season every year.

Last year's cutoff was 1360, JM was at 1366.

Depending on where this year's cutoff is, and where JM's enrollment has gone, JM could be a Class A team next year.

Northfield's enrollment has been going up, but the last two years it has not been increasing at the same pace as hit had been, so who know's what's happening there. They could be A or AA.

Looking at the MSHSL AA hockey pinmap (http://mshsl.org/mshsl/googlemap.asp?ac ... &dclass=AA)

I can see why Le Sueur/St. Peter/Montgomery was put in 1AA, but agree that geographically they belong in 2AA. I think all three schools had drops in enrollment, and depending on how much of a drop, you could see them back in A next year (though I doubt it)

Hi everyone...guess you could call me a 'long time visitor, first time poster.'

I heard from a source I consider to be pretty reliable that the high school league is considering the addition of Shattuck-St. Mary's school to an existing section and allowing them to compete annually for the tourney.

Thoughts? Does this sound insane to anyone but me?
