pretty popular i guess :)

How popular is the tournament? Every game at the Xcel Center is televised live on the local Fox affiliate, and the broadcasts feature such analysts as former NHL players Phil Housley and Tom Chorske. "It captivates the state," says Wally Shaver, a longtime Minnesota hockey broadcaster who has called the last 14 tournaments. The Class AA (large-school) quarterfinals last Thursday drew a 5.01 share, better than this season's averages for the Wild (3.06) and the Timberwolves (4.07).

More people watch the Timerwolves than the Wild?

...Why?

...Because the people that want to watch the Wild go to their games, the ones that want to watch the Timberwolves don't want it bad enough to pay for the tickets, so they watch it on TV.

Makes sense I guess. For the people in the Metro Area anyways... I'd still think enough people from around the state would watch them though to make them more televised than the Wolves...

yea i still cant figure out how the wolves get more viewers than the wild.. BUt now imagine if the tourneys were on FSN a nationwide station... im sure that viewing # would probably double

So WCCO and FSN ... make it happen!!!! :)

I don't understand why there isn't more TV coverage of AA consolation and 3rd place games especially when you look at the attendance of the class A games their doesn't seem to be much interest in the class A.

I'd say the interest is equal per capita. It's just hard to pack the X when you have schools with enrollments of 400 playing each other. The same thing happens when schools like Hill play in the AA tourney.

Sure would be great if they could televise the games in HD, hopefully in the not-to-distant future.

Or just the T-Wolves are so bad that no one wants to waste money on a ticket

I think it might have to do with how often the two teams are on FSN. When you think about it the T-Wolves are rarely on, so when they are more people watch because the opportunity doesn't arise that often. Whereas the Wild are probably on FSN 50-60+ times a year. If people miss a game or two they aren't worried about it because they know there will be plenty more opportunities to watch in the future.

One thing that really upsets me with FSN is how rarely they broadcast in HD. Why go out and buy the necessary equipment needed to broadcast in HD and then never do it? What makes it worse is that everytime the Wolves play on FSN it gets broadcast in HD, yet, the Wild and Twins never get the HD broadcast. That makes no sense to me.

I never watch the Wolves so I don't know about them, but on my cable system (Comcast) they do show the Wild and the Twins in HD. I haven't seen this year's TV schedule for the Twins, but last year I would guess about a third of them were shown in HD? The Wild not so much, maybe a fifth? Like you though I'm wondering why not all of them, as long as they have the equipment? And why NO Gopher HD hockey?

The high school tournament situation is different, because it's Channel 45. I'm not sure if they even have the capability yet.

The games were televised on channel 45. Not a Fox affiliate

I have Charter but I'm sure when the games are broadcast in HD on one they are on both. They do show all the sports teams minus the Gophers in HD but my point overall is that it's not done enough. I can only hope they catch up with the current day's trends sometime soon.

I read in the paper last week that FSN would like to broadcast all Twins games in HD, but then their production cost for the game is higher somehow, and they don't make any more money by broadcasting in HD.

I always wonder that too. I suppose that ratings just aern't there, but what else is 45 going to show. I mean, if its too much, just show the broadcast without broadcasters. Of course, that would actually be an improvement.
