Ed is a good coach and a good guy.

He's one of the coaches that did the right thing, even though it was tough on the team.

As with all things, change is immenent..

Ed was a tough hard nosed defenseman for Duluth East. He coached the same way.
Over the years he lost a lot of talent to private schools, which had to be tough.

I have no idea wether he'll be missed in Shakopee, but I would love to see him coaching again.

Is there any chance Haglund will take over or is he gone too.

I just put a call in to a freind of mine in that area. Word has it that Haglund is gone also. he said them leaving has more to deal with both of them having kids in the youth program now. Hope to see them coaching the youth program someday. sounds like most of the Alumni will miss them alot.

I have talked with a few people in Shakopee and it sounds like they resigned so they could spend more time with the families.

But I have also heard that the parents and some players did not like how hard the coaches were on the kids. By that I mean they made them take responsibility for their actions. And so the parents were trying to run the coaches out and that made the decission easier for the coaches to resign and be with their families.

Looks like the parents got what they wanted for their high school babies.

Ed and John were great coaches and they will be missed. Hopefully another program will pick them up. Maybe a program that is headed in the right direction.

That's hilarious. Haglund got run out of Prior Lake several years ago by the parents and look at what they ended up with. John Haglund and Ed are great coaches...be careful what you wish for folks.

Shakopee had it comming
The team was rough on Ed this year with alot of suspensions.
A 4-22 season
Their starting goalie went to Chaska

Must have been rough for both of them

but according to my kid who knows LP he and Ed did not see eye to eye
and he was part of the reason he jumped to Chaska.

When the going gets tough the tough gets going.

I heard he was not doing to well in school and that was the main reason his mom arranged for him to transfer.
The seeing eye to eye part i cant comment on i dont have any knowledge of that. Ill confirm
Ed's system from what i know is the "beat the dog untill it listens" method.
which brings the question...is that a good way to approach things with todays youth? Kids now-a-days are hard-headed...should the coach try to addapt to that to coach kids, or stick with the same method?

The River Heights "A" Bantam squad has a good head coach. I heard he is looking to move up to the high school level. He only played to the "C" Bantam level but he once took a "B" Bantam team to regions. I wouldn't be surprised if he were to be offered the positioin. His knowledge of the game is second to none.

i dont know who you are kidding..... ed was a bad coach from what i heard from his players. I guess i cant really judge, but if shakopee had some talent on the team besides felker, i mean they had 2 or 3 sophomore goalies, i dont know. But i wish shakopee had some talent..... then maby he would have been a good coach.

This is a joke, right? April fool's? OK, Bantam C player NEVER played HS hockey. If he did I don't want to know where. Now he should be offered the position? None of my business, but good luck Shakopee...

By the way...his knowledge is second to none...i am taking this as an April Fool's joke.

Ed was not a bad coach in fact the majority of the kids loved playing for him. This team was 90% soph's as the "upperclassmen" were either suspended, didn't go to weights (so they had to sit out games), or quit. The soph's understand they should have been playing JV all year but because the numbers of kids were down they got the opportunity to play varsity. Your boy mentioned above made the decision not to work hard in the weight room and payed the price by getting to sit in the stands and hold hands with his girlfriend why the rest of the team tried to compete. Ed wants to spend more time with his family and in my opinion has earned that right. Good luck!
