For the Statistician's/Handicappers:

Do teams when they arrive at the state tournament typically score at about the same pace they do during the regular season or does it slow down just a tad (statistically) due to maybe the awe of it all?

My guess is the average scores might be less due to the awe and the competition level but does anyone have any data in the memory banks to support this theory?

Teams can play many games against inferior competition during the season. You don't normally find those kind of teams at state. As a result, you won't find many big blowouts. ON AVERAGE, this means goals are down.

Using Edina as an example:
11-4 over Buffalo
8-1 over Burnsville
hung about 10 on Armstrong or something

College basketball players from the major conferences normally see their scoring averages decline markedly in league play. The same phenomenon is at work here. Not awe, just competition.

There is no apostrophe in "statisticians." Just saying.
