Is Buddish (Edina) available to play in State tourny? I know he's been out all year with the knee, but I saw him skating with team at practice last week. Would he even be eligible?

He would be eligible. I would think at the most, all he would do is skate in warm-ups only.

He would certainly be eligible but they would not take the risk of him coming back too early.

Besides, if he did play, there would be teams taking shots at him knowing he's not at full strength.

Exactly. Skating and running is one thing - but I am sure the knee is not ready for physical contact - i.e. collisions.

First of all spell his name correct. And I have said before, I think he will play this year at least one shift. I don't know if gophers would let him though.

They would be stupid to put him out there to play one shift. Either he is ready to play in a full game or he won't play. And if he was ready to play he would have played in the Section Finals. HE WILL NOT PLAY THIS YEAR!!!

its not like budish hasnt played in the state tournament before... he played the last two years, they wouldnt risk hurting his knee and ending his career for sentimental reasons

Dude- calm down on the name spelling. I was just curious if he would play or not as he was/is awesome. I'm not a great high school hockey mind, just a former edinan curious. All else-thanks for info.

I'm sure he was just practicing with the team to get a little conditioning in. Why risk your college (not to mention pro) career by getting out there too early? We likely won't see him play again until next fall.

By the way, can you imaging how dominating this Edina team would be if he would have been in the line up all season?!?!

Even though I've never been a Cake-Eater or Giles fan, it would be great for him and the hornets if he could. He's a class kid and its to bad he's had to miss his senior season after all he's meant to this team over the past 10 years. My guess is that he'll dress and at least be introduced on the ice.

Not saying it is right and I am glad he stayed to play his senior year but if he would have one to the USHL or NTDP he would not have hurt his knee in football. Just an observation. Like I said, I am glad and like to see kids stick around and play with their buddies for the best year in their lives.

Someone can correct this if I'm mistaken, but he would have had to be added to the final playoff roster to be eligible for the playoffs. I believe those were turned in prior to the first section playoff game and can only be altered due to an injury after that fact.

He actually might not be eligible to play if they didnt include him on the section roster. They could have left him off it and gave it to a JV player instead.

The thing that I just do not understand is why he was put in a position like that. You usually do not put your best players on the kick-off against a team you are much better than. The saddest thing in my mind is that it was an unnecessary risk to take given the circumstances and potential loss.

The take away is not to give up football, but just don't add risk without value. If he would have hurt it against EP in a playoff game, then thats the breaks. However, hurting it the way he did is just stupid. The coach should have his head examined.

You should have yours examined at the same time.

Tough to say that. Players play and he was one of their best. He was contributing to his team during a playoff run. Bad luck is all that can be attributed to.

Last I checked, GR3343 is correct on that. He would have had to have been on the playoff roster.

If I were him though, and I was playing for the Gophers next year and hurt all season, I would definitely want to get in as much ice time now as possible -- and I'm not talking about playing games yet, just skating and getting his legs back slowly and keeping his skills sharp. Therefore, I doesn't surprise me at all that he was practicing with the team. Gopher practices will be here before he knows it.

I thought he was playing a year of Juniors first? Or is that undecided?

I know that Lee is playing a year of juniors before joining Notre Dame's squad, but I think Budhish is going straight to the Gophs.

Hopefully he goes straight there. It will be fun to watch him next year.

For all that he has done for that program and that team for multiple years I would hope that they would include him on the playoff roster regardless if he will be able to play, show him some respect and at least let him dress and sit on the bench with his team

You said it alkali_27. I can't imagine Edina not rostering him so he can dress and be on the bench. If he could play, a state championship would be guaranteed I think.

I am guessing he is not on the roster, because if he was he should have had his name mentioned and received a medal. You do not need to dress to be a part of the final roster. He can be listed as injured and on the roster, but he would have received a medal. But he did hoist the trophy....

Bad luck and poor decisions. You never put your best players on a kick-off team against an inferior opponent. Need to have your best players on the field when it counts, so putting them out on special teams against a weak opponent is just plain stupid.
