How did Crookston make a regional tournament they are one of the worst Bantam A teams in Minnesota How will they even compete? They are really bad believe me I have seen them a couple of times this season isn't there any better teams in D16 that would atleast compete with some of those teams in the North Region. Who is the district coordinator in D16

D16

hocketstar101,
According to Myhockey website Bantam A ranking Crookston is the 82nd  ranked team out of 95 total that they rank. District 16 has a policy that the host gets the auto bid. 8) It usually is not as magnified as towns like Roseau, TRF, EGF or Warroad host the Regional. To my knowledge Crookston has two District 16 wins against LOW.
Roseau has an absolute cakewalk to the Sunday Final. Them fine Lutheran boys been praying all winter for that!! :D :)

Warroad, TRF, and especially EGF all would have had a chance to play Sunday as the third seed in district 16. Crookston doesn't.

The region bracket says they're using rink #1 and #2 in Crookston for the tournament. They're off to a good start, if their goal is to p*** off as many people as possible.

Yes I agree with that I don't believe Crookston has ever done anything right in the hockey world, wow after looking they are ranked in the 80's this is going to be a big joke I think the district needs to look into this who is the district coordinator Yes I agree I had the opportunity to watch TRF and EGF in the Roseau tournament this year and I thought they both had something better to offer than Crookston especially EGF I thought they had some really good players on there team. I think D16 needs to change this especially if they are the only ones left running this format where if you host regions you can elect to play in the regions at your home community

So D12 hosted the state tourney for bantam A a few years back.
The team that hosted was not that good but took a spot in the state tourney.

Do you know why this was done?

Because the 4 districts (at taht time the gold region) agreed to it.
That was the way it was.
Was it right?
Yes, because it was an agreed upon policy.

Crookston hockey coordinator had wanted to give up the spot, but his boss said, no.

Is it fair to the D16 teams? Yes, because everyone knew coming into it.

Can it be changed?
Yes, if the local associations want to, but they all know that by doing it this way, D16 will continue to provide the best tournament experience in the state.

How do I know this? Because I go all over the state to tournaments, invitational and play-offs. I talk to people all over the state.

So my advise, whether you want it or not, is worry about district 12 and what you can do to make it better (or just make it survive).

Elliot70 conveniently forgot to mention another team in Bantam A North region that might just have a shot at Sunday play. That would be Grand Rapids Indians. Just about 70 miles due east of your fine Burrrrrrmidji city. They have been known to play some pretty good hockey in that community as well there elliot70

Roseau 28-13-1
Bemidji 26-14-0
Grand Rapids 25-12-3

Only head to head Bemidji 4-3 win over Grand Rapids in Overtime back in January.

Grand Rapids could get the second spot and have to play Roseau.
Duluth East is not invinsible, but should be the #1 in their pool. Bemidji or Grand Rapids should be #2.

Roseau has an easier go of it with Crookston and Cloquet.
Almost a guarantee of Roseau and Hibbing for 1 & 2.

I would like to see Crookston win a game or two, but can't see it happening.

Yes, the next time for peewees in Virginia, the setting had changed and an automatic bid for state was gone.

It is too bad that MN hockey has to give host berths but if people aren't willing to host otherwise what do you do?

Worse things could happen.

The only hosts given out now are in the district for regions...
D16 evaluates it annually at spring meeting.

The down side, Silver Bay hosting 12UA tourney without even having a team. Most of the teams coming from the west or NW.

Hockey101nonstar,

I think you owe the good people from Crookston an apology!!! First as Elliott said they tried but were denied and wanted to play in districts. 2nd Crookston did not play in a Roseau tournament according to the schedule I looked at so what team did you see in Roseau? Crookston as I've seen could have had a better season if they would have shortened the bench and played 2 lines more but without the #'s at that level only had 1 bantam team with 20 kids. A town with those #'s did a nice job trying to get all kids many b level playing time. So Crookston does seem to do some things correct in regards to hockey!!!

Opinions

There is nothing wrong with folks forming an opinion on the subject of auto bids. elliot70 has done a very good job of describing the decision making process in district 16 so everyone outside of D-16 understands the ruling on the auto bid. I believe Eveleth is taking an auto bid to Bantam VFW state which is in my opinion crazy but a bit similar to D-16 policy on host bid, that is the ruling option for the host team to take.
Any time you have an 82nd ranked (Crookston) and 89th ranked team (Eveleth) in Bantam taking a spot in tournaments by virtue of a bid folks will forumlate an opinion. They have the right to do so without having to apologize to the programs involved. It is a occurance where the quality of the teams in question kind of magnifies the situation.

elliot70 on the Bantam A North Region schedule it has all games on Saturday on Rink number 2. Are the Bantam playoffs getting bumped to rink 2 by figure skaters or is that just a typing error? thanks!!
