Tonka 3-2 OT!

Very important for Edina to win this game (I'll explain). Section Seeding for 2AA will be interesting because Edina has such a tough schedule and they have beat EP twice compared to Jeffersons weaker schedule and a 1-1 record vs EP. Now Jefferson as we all know only has one loss but Edina's 4 kind of sticks out like a sore thumb. Now if Edina can go into this game and beat up on Tonka I think that may cover an earlier loss and they will probably have a fairly solid shot at a #1 seed. But, if they lose on Saturday to Tonka (and Jefferson wins out) I'd be shocked if Jefferson didnt get the #1 seed for sure.
You have to think that Edina knows all this and I'm sure they be out trying to make the best possible impression before the seedings

As much as I want to see Tonka win this, I think they will win section 6AA, I do not see Edina losing this one at home. They lost last time against Tonka and I am not sure, but it might be senior night? No loss here.

This will be a battle. If Edina wins, they and mtka will share the conference championship. If they dont, mtka will get the out-right win. Although this game is important i dont think it is that important for section seedings. I have to beleive that both Edina and Mtka will get the 2 seed in their respected sections. Should be a great game to watch. i cant wait

Edina is going to wear their "Retro" jersey's for this game. The jerseys will be auctioned off during the game with all proceeds going to the Bill Mork family. Billy was an 84 Edina grad that played on the 84 state championship team. He was tragically killed in a car crash earlier this week.

That wall (of which was only required in the 3rd period) wasn't their only problem last time around. It was - unlike Edina - 3 lines of forechecking that gave them trouble. Edina is still very good so if both teams bring it could go either way.
[edit] Tough loss for MHS. They need to learn to step on the throttle more when ahead instead of sitting on a lead. It's the same type of play that cost them their game against Benilde in last year's section final - dominate for 2 periods, go into a shell and lose in OT.

2-0 Tonka after 1; the myfoxhockey feed is choppy.
Edina controlled play for the first 5 minutes or so, but Tonka has taken over a bit since then.

Good call by Giles - he set up the mismatch Tonka line #3 line against #2 line which yielded the game winner. Surprised Tonka coach didn't catch it.

Must have been a very good game, I'm disappointed I didn't get to see it. Was the game pretty even the whole way or did 1 team control most of the play? what were the shots? Tough loss for Tonka, I'd love to see a rematch of this game in state. Have 2 teams ever played each other 4 times in a season before?

Wayzata and Edina met four times last year, the last one on Groundhog's Day. It could have been a 5th if they met at the state tournament.

Best game I have seen all year, hands down. Tonka dominated the first two periods and was up 4-1 going into the 3rd. Edina's Akeny let in a few week goals and I wasn't impressed with his play. Anyways, 3rd period is a different story. Edina just torched Tonka for 4 goals in the 3rd. 2 from Everson, 1 Lee, 1 from Max Everson. Overtime, both teams had numerous chances but neither could capitalize. With a few minutes left, Eppel fed Taft on the doorstep and he put it home and the place went nuts.
highlight of the night: Edina fans were chanting Mr. Hockey after Marshall had scored his first two goals. In the 3rd, Tonka's goalie made a very good save on Everson and then the Tonka began to mock Edina, by chanting Mr. Hockey(making fun of Everson since he couldn't put it away). As they were chanting it, Marshall pounds in his 3rd goal of the night. Tonka fans looked stunned and were silenced immediately as the hats flew onto the ice and the Edina crowd went wild. Truly a moment I will remember for a long time. It was an unforgettable game.

I'm not an Edina fan, but I've seen a lot of Edina hockey over the past 2 years because they get televised online a lot. In watching them, I think I've figured that the only way to beat this team is to get them down early, frustrate them, then lock them down for the rest of the game. It's the formula Hill, Centennial, and Minnetonka (in their 2nd meeting) have used.
Otherwise, you're chances are slim to none. The Hopkins game was an exception, but they're the last team in the state I'd want to face in a game that is close late or in OT. Looking back at the section final vs. Burnsville, last year's state semifinal against Benilde, or tonight's game, they know how to get it done when it matters.
What is particularly alarming for the rest of the state is that Minnetonka seemed to be following this formula for a while tonight and even responded to Edina's first goal excellently. But then they got a little life in the 3rd, and I was not shocked by the end result.
It'll be fun to see how both of these very talented teams handle the pressure of some loaded sections.

Best game I've seen all year. Edina with a great comeback. Tonka's goalie plays stellar, especially in O/T. All Edina's goals were scored from the crease (3-4 back doors). Edina's front line too strong down low in the 3rd period. Would love to see these two teams play again.
