This has been a great year for Squirt A hockey and the Eden Prairie Tourney is another step to the Grand Daddy of them all in Fargo.

Teams in Tourney -
Eden Prairie (Going to Fargo)
Minnetonka (Going to Fargo)
Mound/Westonka
Rochester Red
Rosemount (Going to Fargo)
St. Michael/Albertville (Going to Fargo)
Stillwater
Woodbury Blue (Going to Fargo)

Here's your chance to predict a winner.

My Predictions:

First Round -
EP over Rochester
Stillwater over Woodbury
UPSET - Mound over Rosemount (over-rated from very weak district)
STMA over Minnetonka

Quarterfinals
Stillwater over Eden Prairie
STMA over Mound

Finals: STMA over Stillwater

3rd Place: Eden Prairie over Mound

Consolation Champ: Rosemount over Rochester

Overrated as in win over Edina Green and Wayzata and then just blown everyone else out of the water?

I thought the Rosemount comment might get a few hits. I was kidding of course, just have to give a few guys over there a hard time.

I would imagine they are the team to beat in EP although Tonka could give them a run for their money if they can get by STMA.

Just for fun and to make a guess let's see how close this goes:

EP over Rochester Red
Stillwater over Woodbury Blue (local rivals could go either way)
Rosemount over Mound
Mtka over STMA (should be another good game)

Stillwater over EP (could be very close)
Rosemount over Mtka (another great game)

Rosemount over Stillwater (great championship game).

Should be a great tournament.

Rosemount is the favorite based on their wins vs. Edina and Wayzata. Tonka or STMA winner could give them trouble if they bring their top game. I'll take Stillwater and Rosemount in the final with Rosemount winning if everything goes according to plan. That's why they play em....

EP over Rochester 6-0
Stillwater over Woodbury 4-1
Rosemount over Mound 10-0
STMA over Mtka 3-1

Semis
Ep over Stillwater 2-1
Rosemount over STMA 2-1 overtime

Champ Rosemount 4-1
3rd STMA 4-2

Rosemount has the edge in the semis with a Friday game, were as STMA and Mtka play early Sat. then a 5 hour turn around to face Rosemount.

Tonka might be getting overlooked in this tournament based on predictions. The EP folks certainly didn't do Tonka or STMA any favors by making the winner play a rested team that might be the best team in the state.......... They must be reading the Bloomington tournament playbook in EP......

Does Woodbury have balanced or unbalanced Squirt A teams? If unbalanced, which is stronger-blue or white?

The teams are balanced, via a draft. We just played our only scheduled game vs the other team. White won 4-2 but the shots were close and it could have gone either way. White seems to have a little more scoring punch up front and Blue is stronger defensively, but overall they're pretty even.

EP will beat Rosemount in my opinion, EP is a team to watch and improving while Rosemount was lucky to win today and maybe played their best hockey earlier in the season. I predict EP 3-1

Rosemount defense played incredible. You can't find very many teams that have 4 kids that will almost never pass to a kid who is covered and can play with that much poise. I think that there D and Goalie (who played very well for what part of there game I watched) are definitly underrated (given everyone on here talks about how they avg. like 9 goals a game or whatever). If the coach of that team or the kid running the D will PM that would be great cause I got a couple Q's for you.

Congats Guys. We'll see you in Fargo.

Most teams have to talk kids into playing defense. For Rosemount to have 4 kids that commited to playing defense and not worry about scoring say great things about their team. Is the fellow runnig the defense a kid or a very young looking dad? I also saw him also at the Bloomington tour. He seems to be doing a great job.

I made it out to the games on Sunday and was very impressed by Rosemount, EP, STMA, Mtka, and Stillwater. How did Stillwater lose to Woodbury? The Mtka-Stillwater game was an up and down game with defense taking a back seat to scoring. The 3rd place game I was very impressed with STMA and all the scoring. They are built around defense and hung 6 on Woodbury. I would like to have details on the Rosemount-STMA game. Did STMA have tired legs from the early Sat morning game with the high flying Mtka team? The championship was a more or less Rosemount controlled game by the blueliners.

I still get puzzled when I look at the rosters of these teams and see only 4 defense for Rosemount and Mtka. You can say all you want, but at this level and the size of the program, add a kid or two for development. Hats off to Woodbury with 2 A teams. Hats off to STMA for fielding a full roster and a young team, 5 first yrs and a first yr goalie.

EP ran a nice tournament that I saw on Sunday. Great new building.

I've talked to him during a competitive practice and I think hes a brother. They had two young guys for a while and one I think was bash brother on here but I heard he moved so not sure what's the deal with the other kid.

Rosemount vs STMA

The early morning emotional come from behind STMA OT win vs a very fast Tonka team fueled the team for the afternoon rather than give them tired legs I think. The team had the luxury of going home and resting for about 4 hours so that helped too.

The game was a very even match-up between teams. Both teams seemed to come out a bit slow, but I think that was due more in part that both teams are built around a strong defense and both are very patient and careful with the puck. After 2 periods, shots showed how good both defenses were as each team had only 6. Rosemount did score on a power play goal in the 2nd to take a 1-0 lead into the 3rd. The Rosemount goalie had a great final period stopping all 7 STMA shots including a last minute flurry when STMA pulled their goalie and controlled the play in the Rosemount zone.

As for Stillwater - They seem to be an up and down team. STMA beat them 7-0 in the 1st game in Hastings and then lost to them in the championship 3-2 in 2OT. When they bring their game they can play with anybody as shown against Tonka.

This season has about 10 top level Squirt A teams and anyone can beat anyone if the kids bring their games. Fargo looks to be a crap shoot with no dominate team right now.

I also agree that EP put on a great tourney - Congrats to them and all of the teams. Good hockey all weekend.

My name is ben. I'm the 18 year old kid who coaches on the Rosemount SQA team. Bash was with us until he transfered schools.
