Last year was probably Denfeld's best chance to upset East this decade. They made a game of it for two periods, at least.
This year, I don't see that happening.

This game isn't exactly thread worthy. Denfeld will need to have a huge game from their tender to keep East under 6 goals. I will say East 6-2. I don't think East will ever look past Denfeld again after the 03-04 season when Denfeld was up 3-0 after two.. And of course East still won 4-3.

After what I consider a mediocre effort against Elk River, East needs to come out with some fire in this one. They'd better not be looking ahead to Grand Rapids.
The game, by the way, will be on 560 AM. Might be an alternative to those who don't want to freeze on the way back to their car after the game.

OK, I have the radio feed going and am definitely not hearing high school hockey. Any explanation?

0-0 after 2.
Two incredibly frustrating periods for very different reasons for the Greyhounds. They played quite awfully in the first, getting outshot 11-6 and appearing lifeless. The second, on the other hand, was complete domination, with shots 21-1 or something like that, but they have somehow missed finding the back of the net.

Good game so far with East finally getting on the board. I heard that 560's radio guy was involved in a car accident with a drunk driver on his way to the game
But from what someone said, he was still there recording updates or something... what a trooper
Glad he is okay

Not East's best game they had the shots but could not put it in the net till the middle of the 3rd..Denfelds goalie really made East work to get those goals...

Denfeld-0

East really did not show up for the first at all. After that, though, it was vintage East hockey...shots 39-4 over the final 2 periods. It was ugly, yes, but Randolph and co. deserve credit for not panicking, sticking with the game plan, pounding the net, and completely wearing down Denfeld.
They need to focus on playing all 3 periods, which has been an issue at times for East. And then there's that age-old Duluth East problem of burying more of their many shots, though Messina deserves some credit for a big night.
Also, good work by WEBC to get an alternate feed on the air despite the unfortunate difficulties with their normal guy (hope he's OK!). There were some obnoxious commercial cut-ins, but I commend them for getting it up and running. It was good until the end, when the guy started complaining about the referees.

Blech.
Just blech.
The first period was the worst I've seen them play this season, and they were lucky Denfeld didn't have a lead. Shots were, what, 11-6 in favor of the Hunters?
2nd and 3rd periods were better but there was still too much "cuteness". The first goal was the result of getting a shot on goal (I didn't count how many shots missed the net tonight, but there were plenty), and then crashing the net. Good old-fashioned work ethic on that goal. They need more of that.
Gotta be better against Rapids and secure that #1 seed.

come on...lets give the hunters some credit. They went out and worked their tails off in the first and came ready to play when east did not. instead of saying east just played bad, give denfeld some credit. They played them tough.

Sorry. Didn't mean to diss the Hunters. They did come out and play with more spirit than East and beat East to a lot more loose pucks tonight than I thought they would.

I wasn't at the game tonight, but if there is any loss that can give a goaltender confidence it's this one. Stopping 43 of 45 shots against one of the best teams in the state is very impressive. Congrats to the Hunters on fighting hard, although only a total of 4 shots on goal offensively in the final two periods isn't too appealing. Denfeld has a very tough stretch coming up in their schedule, now is the time to be playing their best hockey.

I dunno what to think about the Hounds now. They played so well at the beginning of the season and now they're playing just well enough to win. If they don't start burying more of their shots and playing better defense, they WILL lose in the sectionals.

Even if Rapids wins that game, which I highly doubt, East will still be #1 seed. East has been too good this year in a very very bad section to not be #1 seed. If East doesn't win 7AA it will be the biggest upset I've ever heard of in any sport.
