Shame on MNhockeyfan for putting some games into the "Games of the Week" category. Blake will kill Irondale. Edina over Minnetonka. Blaine the win. Roseville with victory. Proctor-Hermantown-Marshall with Silver bay native Samantha Downey downing Silver bay handily!! (Blood bath possible) after loyalty check fails)

conehead, you need to pick actual scores in order to have a chance to win this week's big prize.

(AA or A) * I'll use Rankings over a Poll - can't verify LPH voting.

Tuesday, January 13
Irondale (18AA) 3 vs. Blake (2A) 2 - late win (3rd)
Minnetonka (6AA) 4 vs. Edina (5AA) 2 - take-in a chance
Blaine (16AA) 2 vs. Maple Grove (13AA) 3 - coin flip, sorry Blaine!
Roseville (1AA) 4 vs. Mounds View (20AA) 1 - no chance
Proctor/Hermantown/Duluth Marshall (9AA) 2 vs. Silver Bay (6A) 3 - Home ice for SB and (1) for PHM

Friday, January 16
Irondale (18AA) 4 vs. Benilde-St. Margaret's (22AA) 1
Duluth Northern Stars (12AA) 1 vs. Warroad (1A) 3 - PP goals will wins this...

Saturday, January 17
Centennial (7AA) 4 vs. Blaine (16AA) 2 - good game, though
Minnetonka (6AA) 2 vs. Stillwater 1(3AA) - just a guess?

*conehead - Northern Hockey is played with respect #1 to the opposing team(towns they represent) and #2 to the players. Sam Downey wore a Silver Bay Mariner jersey (many years) and will allows be a Mariner no matter what jersey she is wearing today. PHM and Silver Bay will play 5 on 5 hockey, the winner of that game will be represented on the scoreboard, not in penalty minutes (just not their style).

Since so many forum members have responded with their picks this week, and in preparation for the Section Playoffs and State Tournament games, we'll have these rules to establish a winner for this week's matchups:

Each correct winner picked = 1 point
Each correct tie picked = 1 point
Each correct score picked = 2 bonus points

1st tiebreaker: correct winner of Minnetonka/Stillwater game (Game of the Week)
2nd tiebreaker: correct winner and closest margin of victory, Minnetonka/Stillwater game
3rd tiebreaker: total goals scored, Minnetonka/Stillwater game

this game might not be the BIG game of the week. Stillwater vs EP which ended in a 5-0 win for the ponies......I have to say Stillwater is highly over rated!! Outside of thier goalie tending. The refs called a obvious goal that EP had has a no goal (which would have made it a 2-1 game) and called a obvious no-goal for the little ponies, which they say was a goal. The shot hit the crossbar and bounced out and they called it a goal.....The refs were terrible! Called EP for multiple penalities and the ponies for (1) in the whole game. Stillwater had 3 VERY WEAK goals in the 2nd period...Outside of that it it was a 2-1 game.

Eagan is twice the team of stillwater - I can't believe the ponies are rated 2nd in the state!! Highly over rated!

I'll have to disagree about Stillwater being overrated. I understand the feeling--there's nothing impressive about watching them. After seeing them twice, I couldn't believe they could ever score 3 goals in a game, much less 7 or 8, which they've done on a few occasions. They're definitely not pretty. But that's the way Stillwater always looks--they grind it out and find a way to win. Their goaltending and coaching is as good as it gets--think Minnesota Wild.
Another way to look at it--in the last 5 years that I've been paying attention, my feeling is that they've had fewer 'star' players (someone could probably tell us how many kids they've had go on to DI in that time) than any elite team. And yet they have 3 state tournament appearances and a state championship to show for it. It's not a secret why that is.
Oh and by the way, usually the home cookin' of the refs only happens at the St. Croix Rec Center. It starts in U10.

Not sure what game you were watching superstar as Stillwater was clearly the better team. Each team had 2 penalties each, EP had 2 penalties in the 2nd period and stillwater had 2 in the 3rd. Again, not sure what game you were watching. Why would anyone say they are overated? They play a very tough schedule and have only lost 3 games.
Lost first game of season to Hill Murray 4-2, lost to Edina 2-1 and Roseville 3-2 in OT. Do they have to be undefeated and beat everyone 7-0 to gain your respect? They are one of the highest scoring teams in the state and are averaging under 2 goals per game against. I have no idea what they should be ranked but they are definitely one of the best in the state this year.

Great observation - Chelsay Jones is D1 (NE & now UM) and Callie Dahl has signed to play at SCSU next year. Are there any others who have made it to D1 from Stillwater?

You know Herb Brooks would be turning over in his grave hearing this,

When the USA team won the Gold he took a bunch of good players that were not the favorites by any means and had them play as ONE.
This is still a team sport, you need to pass you need to shoot and you need to play as ONE. And you do not have to have all superstars to have a successful team.

And I was at the game. At best it was a 2-1 game - 3 of thier goals was so crappy...(2) of them were tips from our players (our goalie should have easly made the save) and (1) was FOR SURE a no goal off the crossbar that the refs counted. And when we scored, the ref blew the whistle from behind the net and the puck was CLEARLY not covered and we chipped it in.

Goaltending saved them and they did have some nice break outs. Not sure about the coaching, but I am sure they are good as well.

Not slamming the ponies - I just ain't impressed. NO WAY will they make it to state

Joe hockey - You have to Chime in with some stats about which players and going D1 or college bound...

The have (2) players playing D1 next year..? I have no idea who they are, but Good for them I say..And I am sure they are great kids......... but they should have dominated our team then and that was clearly NOT the case. The player of that game was the Stillwater goalie

The goal that you are complanning about was a goal because of two reasons. (1) There was never a noise as if the puck hit the crossbar and (2) the nets were stretched to tight that pucks were bouncing back out to the blue line durning warm-ups. The goal you think EP should have had didn't count because the ref lost sight of the puck from where he was standing. In my opinion the Ponies have a better chance of making it to state then the Eagles do.
