1. Apple Valley 5, Duluth East 4 (5OT) (1996 - Class AA Semifinal)
2. Duluth East 3, Jefferson 2 (OT) (1998 - Class AA Semifinal)
3. Edina 4, Burnsville 3 (OT) (2008 - 2AA Championship)
4. Duluth East 3, Rochester Mayo 2 (1997 - Class AA Quarterfinal)
5. Warroad 4, Totino-Grace 3 (2OT) (2005 - Class A Championship)
I'm sure there were better games than these, but I limited my list to only games that I saw. I also tried to be as unbiased as possible in my picks (I picked a game where East lost, too).
a few more

Jefferson and Minnetonka played a game in the 1985 tournament that was stopped and finished the next morning
Edina, Southwest, and Warroad had some epic battles around 1970.
I think this thread has been done before, but I also think it is worth revisiting.
How about Roseau scoring three goals in the last two minutes last week to win!!

I don't think that will go down as one of the best games ever, although, it was very exciting to watch!

Junior Paul Martin of the Elks and sophomore goalie Travis Weber of Hibbing, both future Golden Gophers. Elk River outshot Hibbing 62-28.

I love those 2 pt conversions in OT...
or... Must have been Parrish shooting the puck, it was going so fast the goal judge thought it went in twice...

2007 Section 3AA Finals Hill-Murray 5 White Bear Lake 4 in 2OT. H-m was up 3-0, WBL rallied to with four straight goals in the second period to take the lead, Hill ties it in the third and wins it on a Bryant Skarda tip in of a Derek McCallum shot in the second overtime. Great game. Actually, you could put any of a number of games between these two games on this list. My second choice would be Shawn Roed scroing in OT to knock out what might have been H-M's most talented team ever in the sections semis in 97.

It was actually was in the 05-06 season, but that game was unreal. When the teams were coming out to start the 2nd OT, both student sections were chanting "Let's go White Bear/Pioneers," it was so loud I couldn't hear myself scream.
The other game would have to be Burnsville v Edina last year in the section final. Non-stop action, with both student sections the most creative sections i've ever heard.

some of the best games (or that i attended) in my opinion in recent years:
2008 Section 2AA Champhionship - Edina 4 - Burnsville 3 (OT) - great student sections, back-and-forth game. Mariucci was standing room only
2007 Section 5AA Semi-Final - Burnsville 3 - Eagan 2 (3OT) - Both teams had a great first line and evenly matched - 55+ shots on goal for each
2004 Section 5AA Semi-Final - Holy Angels 6, Eagan 5 (OT) - Tons of talent on the ice, one Eagan player had 4 goals too if i remember right
I forget the year, I want to say 2000? When Osseo defeated heavily favored Elk River (with Paul Martin) in the Section Semi-finals after a 4-0 deficit
But the all-time best game in H.S. history in my opinion still is 1996 - Apple Valley 5 - Duluth East 4 (5OT)
Best game ever

How bout 2007 section 3AA championship:
Woodbury-3
Defending state champs Cretin Derham Hall-2
in overtime with Eddy getting the game winner on a top-shelf one timer from the blue line. That game was insane.

Except that it was in 1996.

In no particular order
1977 John Marshall over Edina 4-2. People remember that one but for my money that year had the best tournament ever. Both semifinal games were tremendous, JM over SSP 1-0 and Edina over GR 6-5. Roseau came in undefeated, Mounds View and Edina had only 1 loss each.
1970 Southwest over Edina 1-0 in overtime, both teams entered the finals undefeated. The game was played pretty tentatively and taken as a snapshot unremarkable but given that never before or since have two unbeatens met for the title it has to be a top 5. Add to it that the school districts are neighbors and you have history.
1996 Apple Valley over Duluth East 5-4 in 5 overtimes, often forgotten is Apple Valley had to come back the next day and beat Edina to win the title, probably the better acomplishment given how long they played friday night. In 1997 Edina does nearly the same thing beating HM in 3 ot's then knocking off unbeaten DE.
2004 Centennial over Moorhead 1-0. It gave Greg Stutz 3 consecutive shut outs, a feat never seen before or since. If for no other reason than to watch his accomplishment it has to be in there.
1984 Johnson over Hill Murray 3-2 in the state quarterfinals. Given the animosity between the 2 and the fact Hill was the defending champs (and would be runner up the next 2 years) it made for quite the David and Goliath story. Other than a select few times, usually involving Edina or Jefferson and a certain Rochester school, it's the only time I can remember the entire building minus a few cheering for 1 team.
