Being new to squirt hockey and hockey tournaments in general I found it very interesting this weekend in Rosemount how parents/fans actions changed from team to team. Some parents sat and watched the game and some fans were screaming at their kids through the glass. Each team seemed to have a different approach.

Does it really help motivate the kids yelling and screaming through the glass? Half the time the kids were on the other end of the ice. I personally love watching the game behind the glass opposed to sitting in the stands. But there's no way I need to yell or scream at anyone during the game including the refs.

How embarrassed do the kids feel when Mom or Dad are yelling and screaming during the game?

If you've ever been on the ice in a game you know that for the most part as the action is going, you really hear blurred background noise. If there is a stoppage in play and right moron yells loud enough, you will probably hear it, otherwise, as the game is going the crowd mine as well shut up. Especially that idiot yelling through the glass.

I have seen parents do this at all levels. But the ones who do it at Mites and Squirts usually push their kids out of hockey.

Indeed. With a helmet on, the distance, the glass, and the rest of the white noise, one REALLY has to elevate their volume level to be heard by anyone on the ice. Yelling from the stands is fruitless, and only affects the OTHERS in the stands.

Most kids don't usually hear what the parents are saying most of the time...just a bunch of noise.

great now they will just yell louder

I wish more parents learned quickly how nice it feels to have people cheer for your kid and than they would apply that by cheering positively for other people's kids, think how good you can make the parents around you feel. or you could just be quiet. I have a very loud voice (Good job Baby--that's me ) but I find the more I know about the game, the less I feel like yelling about.
