Any idea as to when it will be finished?

Anybody have any idea what a new hockey arena is going for these days? Ballpark figure maybe?

The 3 rink multi-purpose facility is due to be ready early in 2010. Figures say it should come in under 15 million.

Crookston Shows Off Plans For New Ice Arena

The City of Crookston says it's a project of necessity -- a $14 million ice arena whose plans were made public today.

The current ice arena will be torn down to make way for a new flood control project, and the new three-sheet, 1,200-seat ice arena will go up near the high school on the north end of town. Officials say it'll serve more than just the hockey crowd. "The key thing here, is we are taking the old arena out of the flood plain," says Mayor Dave Genereaux. "We are trying to protect some 130 homes that are effected by the flood plain in the Jerome addition."

Aaron Parrish is the city administrator. "Our ice arenas are really community facilities, outside of those times they don't have ice," he says. "They'll provide an opportunity for a walking track, so that will be really available to anyone in the community. We also do a lot of our youth programming in there -- that's not ice-sports specific."

Federal, state and city funds will pay for the project. City officials don't anticipate any tax increases to help finance the new arena. Construction will begin this fall.

Hum....$14 million? I think that number is really low for a three sheet with 1,200 seats. I am currently in a 3 year old, 500 seat, concrete floor, ice rink that is a single sheet that cost $8 million.

Maybe they said it was low so not to worry the tax payers. Just a wild guess.

I don't believe it will have enough seating to qualify for Section tournaments?

I think I know where some of the Gov 700 billion dollars is going????

This will be one of the best 3-sheet ice facilities in the upper mid-west and will be a great asset to the Crookston area.

Anyone who has had or has a chance to come to Duluth's new Heritage Sports Center will see one of the nicest High School and Youth Venues around. When the second rink is completed it will be even more impressive. Any feedback?

It's a very nice facility.
The only thing I feel they could have done differently is, where the big pillars are on the concession stand side of the rink, move those back about 3 feet - they interfere some with line of sight. They also could have taken advantage and added a couple more rows of seats and cut down on the walkway just a little.
