I like the track and field events but they pepper too many human interest , feel good stories in between events. Shut up and Run Forrest Run!

Women's Beach volleyball is always,..... shall we say, visually fascinating as is regular women's volleyball. Be careful sachishi4, make sure you know the ages of the gymnasts before you pull for them too hard


I also like the velodrome cycling events - if you like NASCAR you will enjoy the crashes.

I could care less about Olympic soccer (no REALLY!) but I did like the fact my futbol Lenas from Norway put a boot up the US princesses hind-end

I actually watched about 15 minutes of the US/Japan soccer game yesterday. Naturally, not a thing a thing happened, but I did have some uni related questions...

* Why was Japan wearing blue?
* Why doesn't the US have anything on their jerseys that indicates "United States" - their jerseys are blank (I'm guessing that's Nike's bright idea).
* I know the referee always has to wear a different color than either of the teams, but is there any significance to the color they end up wearing? Why not just black & white stripes like hockey or FOOTBALL?

Nike does control that and they probably thought it would detract from their branding. Actually I'm glad they don't say USA, that way we aren't associated too easily with the typically under achieving, poor performance on the field.

Color options determined by governing body of the tourney - typically up to 4 different colors. I had 5 different color jerseys in both the short and long sleeve versions before I retired.

Of course the sport is European. They saw how silly black and white stripes look on the officials here. Of course they have more fashion sense then we do here. That of course explains the lime green and hwy orange they use in Italy. Also, when exiting the stadium the black and white strips were too easy to identify and they got tired of trying to out run the angry mob.

I'm a big Olympic Boxing guy, I'll watch hours of it on CNBC, they'll have 4 hours or so most nights and a 3 hour replay each afternoon from 4-7. Beyond that I won't watch much aside from some track.

I like the boxing too, but the size of the gloves are almost to the portion of those inflatable ones we had growing up. It looks like they are bitch-slapping each other

I love the scoring system in olympic boxing - it makes it much more enjoyable to watch, and takes almost all of the controversy out of it. Why they don't use that in pro boxing, I don't know.

Winter Olympics Guy as well...

Hockey, Skating, Skiing... Minnesota winters probably had a lot to do w/ that!

I'll have to check out the boxing.

Beach volleyball ( ), swimming and anything else Olympics is cool with me. It's only every 4 years so it grabs my attention.

I caught some of that womens synchronized Diving and I will say it is truly remarkable how they do that...and another thing on that, I thought the USA girls were way better then the scores they were given to them
The home (Chin) team would do the same dive get like all 8.5 to 9.5's and yet the US girls get like 6.0 to 6.5...no frigging way!!! those two USA girls even breathed at the same time....homers

Any one else seeing scores like this? I've only caught limited events.

Can you imagine, you're out seeing the sights some whacko goes off and destroys a family. The unfortunate thing is that you can't write it off as something unique to China because it could happen anywhere. Scary thing. As bad as the crime itself, I can't imagine trying to get through it in totally unfamiliar surroundings and not being able to communicate with everyone in your own language. A nightmare.

on a positive note, got home from Sunday night date night at the Superrink (Mr. D lost his first playoff game, dang it, no more date nights till next season), just in time to watch the men win the 4x100. I thought there was no way that the US would catch up. It was great to watch.
