Who's not coming back to high school next year?

Anybody know a list of kids that are either going USHL or Ann Arbor next season? I've seen comments that Lee is gone and perhaps many other players, but haven't seen confirmation...

So far I know...
Mike Lee - Roseau (Fargo-USHL)
Ryan Walters - St. Thomas Academy (Des Moines-USHL)
Justin Faulk - South St. Paul (USNTDP)
Blake Thompson - Eden Prarie (Sioux Falls-USHL)
Alec Rush - Eden Prarie (Tri-City-USHL)
Charlie Thauwald - Rochester Mayo (Chicago-USHL)
Seth Ambroz - New Prague (Omaha-USHL)
Mayo - Charlie Thauwald

Charlie Thauwald will play for the Chicago Steel (USHL) this season.
Charlie was to be one of the top players in both Football and Hockey for the Mayo Spartans. DE in Football, and Center in Hockey, and will be missed...
Decision was enhanced by older brother Scott's experience in USHL, then going to CC for college hockey.
Interesting background quote from Charlie:
"I'm hoping that by joining the USHL that my exposure will really increase," said Thauwald, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound forward. "Each game in the USHL there are five to 10 college scouts there. I'm hoping for a lot of exposure and to develop as a player."
Thauwald admits that leaving Mayo won't be easy.
"I'm going to miss out on all of our school events, and I'm going to miss being with my friends and my teammates" said the 17-year-old. "This was a really hard decision."
More perspective from HS coach and Charlie:

This is what these talented kids are thinking, we may debate and debate these issues here on Forum, stay in high school or leave to get more exposure; MN HShockey offers the best HS tournament in the nation in any sport, but other options are becoming a better venue to show ones talents, and this decision is just one of many to follow given the current status of Junior hockey versus HS hockey.
It is sad for me to see this happen, as someone who has gone to the HS tournament for 35 years, but it is a progression that cannot be stopped, and it is for the good of the talented players to find a venue to show what they can do before an expanded group of college and NHL scouts.

This does not surprise me at all. Coaches from these leagues are encouraging talented kids to leave early, especially in S. Minnesota where there are talented players on most teams, just not the depth. Their HS teams generally play a weaker schedule than the Metro teams therefore giving the Junior league people some ammo in telling these talented kids that their development will be much better in Juniors. Some of these people are touting the AAA midget leagues as a better option than HS hockey in S. MN. What is right? I guess each kid and their parents will have to weigh the options and see what fits them best. I don't think anyone on this board can bash someone for a well thought out decision. Each kid is a different circumstance

I've heard Walters may not be leaving this year because he's afraid he won't play enough... Any truth to this?

I don't know why he'd think that, he'll probably get TONS of icetime. Also, he's on the 25 man roster, so he'll be there.

I hadn't heard that, and I doubt it. There were only a handful of 1991's and no 1992's in the USHL last season, so it's unlikely that a 1993 would play this season. I won't rule it out though, Ambroz is highly skilled and pretty big for his age.

I have heard from a pretty reliable source that he is going to Omaha.

No truth to it. He is heading to Des Moines.

He will be a sophomore and I have been told he will be playing at Omaha. I suppose changes could always happen but it seems as if he is going to be in the USHL.

Interesting since he tried out for Fargo following Omaha camp. I guess Fargo was open, so I don't know if he could have been protected by Omaha and still participated or not.
The coach in Omaha loves defense and plays a trap, so it might not be fun for a offensively talented player like Ambroz.

Didn't seem to bother Seth's older brother Matt when he played for the guy at Tri City.

Matt wasn't 15 and still coming into his own either
Omaha released their roster and Seth is on it.

omaha did release their 33 man roster, which includes futures draft picks, not all have made the team yet or for some, have not made the decision to leave high school yet....

Have to believe one of the reasons this kid goes to play is that the parents have a known quality of having had their older son play for Bliss Littler. Besides, traveling to Omaha is going to be much easier for the parents than all those trips they made to Kearney, Nebraska.

25 man protected lists have been updated:

I am missing quite a bit of info on some players, so if anyone out there is able to help me fill in some blanks, it would be MUCH appreciated! Thanks.

A "before and after" his high school season, just like several players do with the USHL

I wish Charlie the best, but I have a feeling he will be 3rd, 4th, or 5th line.
The Steel have 15 forwards rostered, so I imagine he won't get that much playing time this year.

I can't imagine Charllie will get too much playing time this year. He is a big kid with offensive skills but not sure how much time he will see? Only time will tell.

I heard the goalkeeper from Mankato West was headed to Fargo. Anyone else hear this?
