SEC Next Season

Is it just me, or is this conference looking ridiculously weak on paper? The 3 traditional powers in the SEC-Roseville, CDH, and WBL-do not appear to have anything special coming up. The emerging SEC power, Woodbury, is losing a TON of talent from their state tourney team. The rest of the conference-Park, Mounds View, FLake, Hastings, and Stillwater-look like they will be mediocre as usual. Who is going to win this conference?

White Bear with Wolter, Swanson, Pasma, and Lowell up front. Putney and Gjerde on D, and Collette in goal.

Woodbury and Cretin will be good, as will Stillwater.

" weak on paper"?, I think they play on ice. Even when the SEC has an average year, it is still one of the toughest conferences.

Who in their right mind would pick Hastings? Must be a glue sniffer.. Hastings won't win 5 games. Welsch couldn't win WITH talent. How in the world do you think he'll get anything out of this collection? I'm not sure they've got enough talent to field a good JV team. The SEC will be bad again this year. Anyone's guess..

More players leaving Hastings???????

The latest rumor in Hastings is that Jon Gleisner there goalie is leaving to go play Junior hockey. Can anyone in Hastings confirm that? If this is the case that team will not win 3 games all year. He is the one bright spot on that team.

Both Cretin and White Bear Lake are strong programs and should be in the running for SEC title

Agreed, but I think this looks like it will be a well below average year for the SEC. I just don't see a clear-cut winner because I don't think anyone is very good.

Another question for you all: Is there a team in the SEC who will make the state tourney next year?

Sure.

Most SEC teams go into Section 3 or 4. HM is in 4 but other than that, things are pretty wide open.

Remember last year, everybody was falling over themselves to hand the section 3 title to Rosemount and Woodbury crushed them in the finals.

Absolutely a SEC team could make it to state.

But is WBL or Roseville good enough to beat Hill?

Just about anybody is good enough to beat Hill - just ask Tartan.

cretin will take it. they got three guys in elite league. WBL has zero. Woodbury has two. and the rest have zero. cdh has the most returners and elite league guys. plus everyone besides cdh, Flake, WBL and woodbury are gonna blow, so not much competition.

You can't base a team's success on 3 players. I think Woodbury is the most talented team in the conference, but the goalie situation is shaky and we all know a team is not going to go real far with a bad goalie. And are Woodbury's elite player Pittman and Gaede?

no hyland and gaede. What talent do they have. Are you talking about ther 5 returners and 15 jv kids. Ya sweet team they got, all jv kids.

And a jv team that was pretty good last season for Woodbury.

OK so Hyland and Gaede are the 2 elite players on Woodbury. Pittman is definitely good enough to play elite but doesn't because he plays on 2 baseball teams in the summer. Ill take those 3 over CDH's Zimmerman, Bangs, and Alt every day of the week. And with regard to the talent they have, you need to remeber that experience and talent are 2 completely different things.

ha wow well if he was good enough to make elite than he obviously would have. And better than Alt, i hope your kidding. the cretin boys are much better than those three woodbury boys, and they proved it by all making elite, and alt making the gophers and nationals. Their JV team barely beat cretins JV team last year. Come on now barely any of the cretin jv kids will play varsity this year. nice try though.

I never said anybody in Woodbury is better than Alt. Mark Alt is clearly the best player of the 6 mentioned in the last few posts. Unfortunately for you, one player does not make a team. This is a case of 1 great player (Alt) and 2 decent players (Bangs, Zimmerman) vs. 3 good players (Pittman, Hyland, Gaede). I'll take the 3 good ones 100% of the time. And no one cares if somebody barely beat someone else. A win is a win and a loss is a loss. O and Pittman chose not to tryout for elite because of baseball. He would have made it had he tried out.

you think pittman would have made it, but you don't know for sure. He is not very good. can barely skate. Wasn't hard for him to rack up a few points playing with the best forward in the SEC last year, David Eddy. Cdh's 3 are better than woodbury's 3. and my point on the jv team barely beating cretins is because woodburys whole team is gonna be that jv team and if they can barely beat that jv team how are they gonna beat the cdh varsity team which returns practically most their team who had two very close games with last years woodbury varsity team.
