Ok, I am going to start another post listing Minnesota High School 08 Seniors committing to DIII Schools. I know that it is difficult to confirm these selections 100% but I know that most kids know where they are going by now and if they do not they should within the next month or so.
So please post or send me any names you may now of and I will keep the list up date matching it against the Beyond the Dashers list.
Also, are there opinions about each schools '08-09' recruiting class? Use this post for that discussion as well.
CONGRATS AND GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF THE GIRLS WHO GET TO CONTINUE TO PLAY THE GREATEST GAME ON EARTH IN COLLEGE!!!!!

Committed to what

Sorry but this is a bit of a misconception These players are being recruited by D3 schools but are committing to nothing. They have NO obligation to attend any of these schools until they pay their money. yes they tell the coach they are going their but by NCAA rules their is NO formal commitment. Point being, a Commitment to a D-1 school has higher implications. That these players Have chosen to attend a particular school is great and good for each and everyone but reality is they have only committed to paying what their financial aid and academic scholarships wont. just a point of reference, commit away.

Hmmm...."committing to nothing"? When a kid makes a decision to attend a school, pays initial fees, signs up for a dorm, attends placement tests etc....that's not a committment? I did not say anything about "Formal". What difference does it make whether it's "Formal" or not, it is still a committment
A kid can still bail out of a D-1 commitment as well, yeah there might be some "implications" but I amnot sure if they are "higher" or not.
This post was meant to identify and celebrate the girls who are moving on to play college hockey at a DIII school that's all. I think there is a lot of interest out there to find out where people are comitting to but it always herd to track this down hence the post. If you want to argue about the definition of committment then open another post and argue it there

Settle down twowayplay no harm intended Every girl deserves their day in the sun and hockey all by itself is a committment . Many many girls Ive worked with have gone on to D-3 and have every right to be proud of thier accomplishment. Im sure many are interested where these great players are going. up until recently it was the only option for players. so in helping you with your quest here :

Twoway, take a chill pill, I believe Media was trying to make a point is all. With D3 there is nothing set, there have been kids that commit now, and end up at a different school just days prior to driving to the school. I don't know all the rules, but with D1 don't they sign a letter of intent, thus obligating them to that school? What are the implications by the way? In D3 there is no such obligation, I don't believe. D3 seems more to be a lets see the roster once school starts, could be wrong though.
Media, It sounds like one or more were on this list originally and will now be playing for your team up north?
Congrats to all that are on this list!

Funny, Basically what Media is saying is.........that all these committed D3 players can still come up and play for the Crunch. Let the recruiting continue.
I think twowayplay has it right. This thread is to list D3 committed players. I enjoy looking at the list, and if it changes some before the start of the season, so it does. Most of it will be accurate.

Solid defensive defenseman for Grand Rapids/Greenway. Logged a lot of ice time in both the state tournament years. Not going to get big offensive numbers but she'll play solid D. She's decent size and can play physical. Lots of hockey smarts.

I was resisting but could not help but ponder the ignorance of this comment. DIII does not recruit? Dead wrong. Let me educate you on this. Yes it is true DIII USED to be considered a walk on program "Go to school get a great education, and maybe play a little hockey" Now days that could not be further from the truth. Our daughter received 3 looks from D1 schools and after the D1 signing dates passed the phone never stopped ringing and the email's were an every day event. The mail was 2 or three letters a day for a couple weeks. With all the great talent available now, DIII coaches are rebuilding their programs by heavily recruiting talented players and even cutting some of those walk ons from the past teams that they can now replace with the talent to improve their teams. Yes D1 has all the perks and is great deal of commitment, but DIII is on a roll with recruiting good talent and improving more every year. Congrats to all the girls. There are some great players on this list.
Ignorance is Bliss

1) I did not say they were not being recruited in fact I said they were!
2) I said They should be very proud
3) MY point was a legal point of committment only Until they pay thier tuition they do not have a legal obligation they dont sign a letter of intent etc. When recruited they do verbally commit it has the same impact as D-1 but its a moral obligation only and can change with little implication
4 ) I said that Hockey in and of its self is a commitment
5) D-3 is not the only option any more for players. Many talented players even some of D-1 Caliber exist after the D-1 schools are full. So should they be forced into or lead into D-3 and the personal financial obligation while it may only be a matter of roster space avaialbility that keeps them from the D-1 level . That is why I am doing what I am doing. Its time for a girls Jr program . By developing a Jr program not only will the D-1 school benefit but also the D-3 schools. We are not fighting the D-3 schools I respect each and everyone. In the boys program most D-3 schools now fill from the JR Ranks. It will one day happen in the Girls as well. We are taking 20 girls for our program out of how many hundreds in the US and Canada and Europe. Many of the girls dont have the ability to be showcased,or coached, or summer oprtunities many players have. The perception now is that they are as good as they can be when they finish High school. I would suggest that most players have significant room to advance emotionally and skillfully following high school for a bevy of reasons. In fact, in the end one of the benefits D-3 and D-1 coaches get a Jr program is an additional year of top competition, and and development. They dont have to deal with Home sickness, and the normal trauma associated the first move from home.If you think there are none you are nieve. We have worked very hard to achieve this and as I have said before am sure we will make some mistakes. But we will fix them. The only issue the girls hockey community has to deal with from our stand point is the ability to manage change and that applys to D-1 and D-3 schools, Players, and fans. It is time to advance the sport to another level and provide another opportunity for our young ladies to continue the game they love without giving up hope for advancment right after highschool if they want too continue to pursue a new level.

3) Maybe someone out there can validate this but I am pretty sure that a D-1 letter of intent has no legal obligation. Kids can still bail and go to another school
5) I think what you doing is awesome. It creates another good oppourtunity for girls to reach their goals & dreams. I don't care what anyone says the more oppourtunity the better.
With that said, the decision making process for girls is much much different from the boys. There is no WNHL or even an amateur league that a Woman could make a career out of. Until that happens, young women will need to start their careers. The best way to do that in this day and age is to go to College or Vo-Tech. Playing hockey at the same time is a bonus. So the focus becomes what is the best School in terms of Majors, learning environment and cost. Then the second part becomes can I play hockey too. The focus is different

Twoway you may very well be correct in that however I think and not positive that the letter of intent is a form required by the NCAA
which has the authority to validate eligibility ,through the successful completion of the NCAA clearinghouse. This in turn validates the candidate for scholarship money. You can release your letter of intent but as with the case of a d3 coach im sure the work involved in getting one to sign and agree that they will accept money offered is looked at differently. In the D-1 case they are actually giving you money for your athletic ability. not so for D-3 , academics yes, grants yes, I guess I dont thinkit happens very often either but I do think you can do it give up your letter of intent.
