proposed new pts system in NHL

with the advent of the OTL and in the standings and the shootout, shouldn't the NHL give teams an extra point if they win in regulation? so for each game, they give out 3 points (3 for regulation win; 2 for OT/SO win and 1 for OT/SO loss)

call it an extra incentive to just not play for OT...

what you think?

What I think should be done is keep the 2 points for a win but 1 point only for a shootout loss. No points for an OT loss, just like regulation and go back to 5-on-5 for the 5:00 OT.

If they go back to no points for the OT losses and 5 on 5, you will get more shootouts. When the NHL had 5 on 5 OT with no points to the loser, nobody even tried to win because they were interested in keeping the one point they could have. 4 on 4 is fun to watch and teams at least try to win in OT right now.

If hockey wants to 'fix' the game, they still need to reduce the size of goalie equipment first and foremost. Even that won't raise scoring all that much with the defensive styles used today.

I also think that is the best scoring system.

You would think teams would want to win more with no guaranteed points for losing in OT. Teams would play hard and would not want to lose in OT and would want at least a point and maybe a second point for winning shootout.

I think it should be 3 pts for a win in regulation. 4 pts for a road win. Non division games would look like this..... I like it the way it is. No need to complicate it.
