Jonathon Roy Fight

Last Saturday Jonathon Roy basically assaulted an opposing goalie. I have played hockey most of my life, and I will be the first one on my feet when two enforcers want to square off or if two WILLING participants want to duke it out. However, the fight you see in the video is not so much a fight, but an assault. The opposing goalie wanted nothing to do with Roy. What are some thoughts on this?

The dude is a loser, just like his old man and i dont think Daddy will start him in the nets the next time these two teams meet up
I'm all for the fighting as it is needed in Hockey but this is way over the top

That would sure make a father proud.. And I bet Mom is just overjoyed that her little baby is about as smart as a box of rocks.
Now, we don't know the whole story as we didn't see the rest of the game/fight, but the Roy family should be suspended for much more than they were. I was impressed with the "other" team as they watched from the bench. I'm afraid that I would have had to jump the boards and protect my goalie if I were on that team.
Thanks for the link!!

If you watch close in that video, a player was on his way to defend his goalie but was cut off at the pass by the ref. I in no way think this was either right or justified, but the goalie that got beat down probably could have defended himself rather than going into the turtle mode. Roy (both of them) just made complete idiots of themselves and it's more than likely they both cost themselves a future at higher level hockey. Especially Dad as it appears that the son isn't a very good tender anyways. Disgraceful act by both guys.

I heard he got a 7 game suspension but IMO should have been ran out of the league along with his dad. The refs should have seen suspended also for letting that assult take place and for tackling that guy trying to defend goalie.

If you go to the Quebec Remparts web page, which you have to click on the "english" icon to read, Jonathon Roy's stats will tell you he has no future in hockey and really shouldn't be playing in the QMJHL.
Makes me wonder if Patrick Roy bought a 3rd of that team so his son would have a place to play.

It is unbelievable the amount of bravado you have to have to beat up an unwilling goalie in front of thousands of people, then have the nerve to flip the double bird to the crowd. At least daddy was in the crowd to protect him. I wish that defenseman would have got to him, instead of the ref getting in the way. I would have gotten a little satisfaction out of seeing Jonathon Roy get his just desserts.

I will say that Roy is a tough fighter, he held is own when someone finally did take him on. A cowardly move on his part though.. if you can fight, then fight someone who is fighting back. I hope that they goalie that got jumped files a lawsuit against him and his dad. Roy should be in jail, not just suspended.
IMHO of course...

As we all learned from the Bertuzzi incident and the series of events that actually led up to it hockey players, coache's and teams have very good memory's ! As stated earlier in this post it will be interesting to see if he play's the next time these two teams meet, following his suspension. There will be no shortage of players lining-up to take a run at him. Not to mention other coaches & players in the league that have taken acception to his actions... Pay-Back's are a bitch![/i]

Will be tough if he received a 7 game suspension. They're tied 1-1 in their playoff series and he won't see the ice again. Couple that with the fact that he's a brutal tender and no one may ever see him play again. That was his swan song.
