Bantams just won state. Strong sophmore class. Future looks bright for the eagles.

Little early but we have to see who the private schools recruit first before making statements like that

How many kids on that team (EP Bantam A) are already at private schools?

you guys really havent done your research, or this would not be a legit topic.

EP will be a top notch contender, but I think 2010 will be the best year for the state in a while (by that I mean there is allot of talent in allot of places).

As for EP winning state? a good possibility, but I would say because of how good the talent will be I think an upset is hiding around every corner.

Also, I feel there are better teams out there for 2010. I think AHA has a very good chance.

My pick (objectively) is Jefferson. Almost all their talent is in their sophomore class (who will be seniors in 2010), and their JV only lost 1 game.

My other picks would have to be Duluth East and Edina. Duluth is will be back, and ready to kill. What makes teams like Duluth East, Edina, and Jefferson more dangerous is that they lose much less talent to other places (although the past decade Bloomington has been the poster child for players leaving). EP will get their bantam talent drained, just watch.

Ep is going to lose Ryan Bullock to Blake. That is the only lost from Bantam, they have lost Bennett Courrier-Oaster(AHA) and Ej Faust (SSM). Look forward to a strong well talented group in 2009 and 2010.

Yeah they are. the whole A team is staying except Ryan Bullock.

EP could undefeated and yet the fans still wouldn't show up, Why don't any students support the hockey team? When Rosemount played them, I swear we had more fans than they did, and it was senior night!!

Coach Smith is a great coach, he just hasn't had the talent in resent years. Though people may say their youths coaches are better coach Smith is still a great coach.

I have a 5 year old in Mites.......How can we find out his draft projection??? He is begining to look like the best player in the history of hockey in Minnesota. Seriously, he scored 9 goal two games in a row...

The only thing we can prove here is that we're out of stuff to talk about now that the season is over.

EP will not be nearly as strong at the HS level without Coach LaCombe. I don't think the team was that deep with talent but they were well coached - much better than most the Bantam teams. Don't know a thing about the HS coach, but I guess we'll see with time. EP lost their best goalie to Benilde and I doubt they have anyone that can be as solid between the pipes. Doubt they'll lose many players now with the stupid transfer rule. I'm sure Bullock will be missed though - nice player.

CENTENNIAL has 6 Bantam A finals appearances since 2001.
The high school has won 1 state high school tourney

Can anyone explain how a program goes to Bantam A state finals for basically the entire decade and isn't a fixture at the state HS tournament?

Don't give me the Privates BS..do kids go all the way from Cent to St Thomas/Breck/Blake/BSM/Cretin??? Or do they lose 1 to Hill??

And if you're going to say Juniors, then why do kids leave Minnesota to play Juniors?

I've wondered that as well, but I will say this...HS programs in many sports have a way of breaking down a great chemistry developed in youth sports,
why does that happen? Is it because you go from having 2 year classes, to 3 or 4 on one team, and the the whole team gets broken apart, taking the best players early, and the rest catching up through the HS years? does this cause those that are not at the top, but were always a part of the team to be discouraged?

On the other hand, some HS programs do just the opposite.

Do you think physical development might have anything to do with it. My God some kids are 5" 4' tall 125 lbs as a second year bantam and then they end up being 6ft 185. Ask yourself is that going to change a hockey player in anyway.

The other major impact is coaching good coaches at the high school level make a big difference. Being ready to play at playoff time is a true sign of a good coach.

It's not just Centennial.

Their is a big difference between bantams and varsity. Also, you can't just look at Bantam A as a sole indicator of a program. There are kids that develop (or fall off) after bantams as they grow and mature. Look at Cenntenials' bantam B's, how do they do? Many schools' varsity programs have a mix of the Bantam A players, and improved B players.

Preparation for the varsity level is important too. Since it is different, you must be prepared differently. Coach Aus is a great coach from what I hear, and the Bantam A program is top notch coaching as well. Somewhere along the way something isn't going right. I would look to the JV program and I would guess a improportional dependence on key players at the Bantam level is not developing the program all around.
