Anybody else have this crap happen during a game? During the Roch Mayo vs. Roch Century game some dingbat from the crowd threw a puck on the ice during a Century scoring chance. Ref blew the whistle seconds before the puck is shot and goes into the Mayo net. All of the Century backers are pissed now about it. I was wondering if people know what the protocol is on this and if there is precident?

Sounds like a surefire way to buy an escort out of the arena. Like everywhere else in life, some people waste good oxygen.

Sounds like some punk looking for attention. Escort him/her out and ban him/her from attending future games.

I saw this for the first time last night in the Albert Lea/Northfield game. The weird thing was it came from the Northfield student section when Northfield had the puck in the offensive zone. I'm guessing the students were looking for some attention since they were down 9-1 at the time.

This is something that needs to be elminated. If it happens in an important game (see quote above) in can have huge ramifications. Fans will need to call out other fans and have them removed immediately.

Ive never seen a penaly called for it. Heck- the few times I have seen it happen it was the little 5-8 year olds running around near the glass throwing things (pucks, mini fooballs, etc...) that inadvertantly go over the boards and onto the playing surface.

I'll let the refs and rule hawks give the final answer but I'm guessing it would be extreamly hard to penalize a team for fan behavior where intent is almost impossible to prove.

Thats when the rink attendants need to find the parents and kick them all out. Then tell the parents that the arena is not a playground for their kids. All parents should keep there kids in the stands next to them, or find a freaking babysitter and keep them at home.

From Northfield I would understand it. There was a fracas at Richfield last week with the student section from Northfield....

What is the protocol for what to do in this situation on the ice? Yes, the moron should be escorted out, we get that. In this situation, on the ice, a goal that would've been scored thrown puck or not, was called off. What's the ruling?

Throwing anything on the ice can result in an ejection from the arena staff. Problem is you must see who threw the object on the ice. In some cases, the only time someone can be ejected from the arena would be if the refs asked for this to happen. Usually this is a loud mouth. If there are fights or other infractions in the stands then arena staff have the right to remove anyone. Just because you pay for a ticket, does not give you the right to be an idiot.

A second puck in play is an immediate whistle. There are penalties if it was thrown from the bench. The rules do allow a team to be penalized for fan behavior however it is difficult to enforce.

That is the rule i was referring to. I knew there was something like that.

A number of years ago (maybe I had taken my son who was around 3 at the time to a Hill sectional game. We stayed to watch the second game of NSP vs WBL and during warmups he attained a puck that came over the glass. Well needless to say, midway through the first period of the game when WBL was on a powerplay, he stood up, ran straight towards the glass and chucked the puck on the ice. The local public safety officer stopped by and had a talk with him. I will never forget that one...

To be honest.....the puck if it was throwin out of the crowd....it woulda came from the side of the blueline the that the century students/fans were sitting on

Sorry but they did not pay $6 for their kids to run around like it was a playground. They came their to watch a hockey game. I help at a local arena and we have kicked out many familys after warning them about not controling their kids. It happens and will continue to happen.

I believe the first offense is a warning over the PA system and the next thing that comes over the glass results in the home team getting a penalty, unless of course it came from the visiting team fans, then they are enforced a penalty.

I hate parents who bring their misbehaven children to hockey games almost as much as I hate parents who bring their beasts to sports bars and let the kids go nuts through the place. Is it too mean to occasionally trip a 5 year old if they're not being controlled?
