Look for the Raiders to come out flying. Greenway will hopefully pulloff the upset. 4-3 Raiders ot. Dan Kessler with the senior leadership.

I wouldn't really say Greenway is playing pretty well. An 8-2 loss to Denfeld and a 7-2 loss to Hibbing in the last two weeks, and they also lost 6 of their last 9 with the three wins coming over teams with a combined total of 59 losses this year.
I really don't see an upset coming in this one. With the exception of the Princeton game, and maybe the last five minutes of the Hibbing game - where it looked like they just gave up, Virginia is not playing that bad, despite the three game losing skid.
Greenway just doesn't have the defense to keep Virginia to less than four goals. Virginia does. The only way Greenway wins is if Virginia is looking ahead to Duluth Marshall and doesn't show up to play. I think they learned that lesson when they went to Princeton, so I don't see it happening again.
Virginia will score 4 or 5, Greenway will get 1 or 2.

If Greenway wins they'll get creamed by Marshall. If Virginia wins I truly believe they could pull upset of the year after only losing 3-1 they think they have a chance. Is it likely no but the blue devils would have a chance. But this game will be close and Greenway has a great chance to win.

Greenway just can't stop good teams from scoring. I'd like to see an upset, but it looks like Virginia 5, Greenway 2. These two teams do not have much of a playoff history. The best game I can remember between these two teams was the Tier II game in which Greenway trailed 5-2 with about 9 minutes left and ended beating Virginia 6-5 in overtime. Biggest collapse I have ever witnessed.

Excellent game-too bad the official took the game away! Shot taken by Guyer- red light comes on-pucks across the line. Officials wave it off. Greenway played one of their most spirited games of the season; sorry to see it end for a great bunch of seniors players and cheerleaders.

Not only that-one of the officials had #18 in a head lock on the ice. What a disgrace

if these are true, these refs need to be reprimanded.

I think the guys on the radio were exaggerating a little bit. I did catch some of their post game show and what they were saying isn't the same thing I saw. I do remember Guyer being thrown down behind the Virginia goal, but that was at the point of the game where NOTHING was going to be called anymore. It was more of a hold - definitely not a body slam, it really wasn't all that dramatic. There were at least a dozen border-line penalties that were just let go because the game was close and the officials wanted the players to decide the game. The old Let 'Em Play mentallity was fully at work.
As for the referee... he stepped in to break up a fight in the final twelve seconds (the game was decided at this point) and in the process took down a Greenway player. I don't think it was his real intention to tackle the player the way he did, but the Greenway player was trying to push his way through the ref to get back after the Virginia player and just lost that battle.
I've listened to a few of the Greenway radio broadcasts this year, and in nearly every single game, they went after the referees after Greenway lost. I wouldn't put a lot of stock into what they say concerning the officiating. I've seen much, much, MUCH worse this year many times.
The goal that was disallowed was the correct call. The whistle had blown before the puck went in and before the red light came on. Guyers' shot was stopped, the puck sat on the goal line for a second, then the Virginia goalie fell on it. The whistle blew right as a Greenway player pushed him off and the puck rolled over the goal line. It was waved off immediately. That would have been a tough sale for Greenway on any referee to get that call.
As for the game, it was pretty sloppy for Virginia. If they play like that on Saturday, we will see running time. Greenway's defense and goaltending gave this one away. Virginia could of had three more goals as well on long shots that the Greenway goalie just flat out missed. Luckily for him, all of them hit the cross bar and went behind the net.
Greenway had Virginia bottled up for most of the second period and at times in the first, but got just two goals to show for it. I think Greenway played the better game in this one, but the same old things that cost them all year came back and bit them again. Missed opportunities, defensive giveaways, and goaltending.

i was at the game and the ref did what he had to do, the greenway kids purposely went out ther looking for a fight in the last minute of the game. yes the ref made a terrible call and i think the goal should have counted. but oh well there only human. also the body slam thing was true it was a missed call and was terrible. besides the two bad calls the refs did a good job. greenway did get ripped off. the raiders out played virginia alomost the whole game. a few bad turnover and missed opportunities were enough to end greenways season

After reading some of the late game antics of the Ely-IFalls, Greenway-Virg. games and witnessing a ten minute major in final couple minutes (sissy punches) and a bush league run for another penalty in the final 40 seconds in the DM-EG game. Thankfully, the refs did not drop the puck in the finals 30 seconds of running time. I know the season is coming to an end for some teams and emotions are running high, but maybe end it with some class. Then the channel 10 news runs the IFalls-ML girls incident. Hopefully, some of the winning teams have enough discipline to retrain from these activities with the risk of getting a game misconduct.
