i can see south st paul, totino grace, or mahtomedi all beating STA if they get the chance. not saying its gunna happen cuz i think Thomas will win 4A but two of those three teams will give them a run i beleive

Every section will most likely have an upset, I don't see why this section will be any different. With that being said, I don't see STA getting upset, it will be either SSP or Mahtomedi getting beat by a lower seed, then STA destroying that team.

They've been upset already, so it can happen. That being said, they mostly likely won't lose in sections. Mahtomedi could play a close one, as they did before, but no one else should be close. All that being said, Holy Angels should've gone last year too...

I think that whoever wins the Mahtomedi vs. SSP game could have a shot. I know if SSP gets there it will come down to staying out of the penalty box. They take alot of dumb penalties and it tends to cost them. 5 on 5 they can play with anyone. They proved that with a tie against Hill.

Despite regular season results, SSP or Mahtomedi could very well knock STA off on a given night. It would take a complete team effort but it's more likely than the average person would think...

who cares anyway, its class A. play with the real men at AA! STA should make the jump like Roseau did if they're so good. they dont even fill the bottom bowl of the xcel, i'd rather play in front of 18,000.

Ouch!!!

The truth hurts. I was some of the State Class A games last year. Very different versus AA crowd. Mariucci might be a better venue.

The top teams of class A can easily compete with AA. STA, Duluth Marshall and Warroad have proved that all year. But the rest of Class A doesn't stand a chance.

if they can compete with AA, then why dont they when it really matters, in playoffs!! especially a private school, c'mon. step up and switch to AA and then see how your team matches up in the playoffs. there's no comparison between A and AA. they should play all their games at mariucci where they could fill the place a little more than the xcel, just my thoughts.

The Xcel Energy Center isn't full because of the AA teams. The reason AA is still sold out every game is because it's pretty much the old format with all the recognizable teams that went to State when there was only one tournament. They don't go because of the teams playing in it, they go to those games because of the tradition in going to the state tournament in March at the X, (civic center).

The AA teams can't even fill Mariucci when they go there after the first game.

The reason that they don't fill Mariucci is because the majority of the population would rather continue to watch teams that still have a shot at the title than watch teams play for 5th place.

And you completely contradict yourself. You say that the reason that AA sells out is because of all the recognizable teams. Then in the very next sentence you say that they don't go because of the teams playing in it? Pick an argument please.

Didn't quite word it right. Sorry Mr. Perfect. It's more tradition in going to the tournament than it is the teams playing in it, but usually the bigger more recognizable teams, that have been to the state tournament back when it was a 1 class system, are in the AA state. Is that better or no?

True, that is a huge factor in it. But it is also the size of the places and what they bring with them. When Jefferson goes, for example, they bring hundreds of students, not to mention so many Bloomington citizens. It's cool to see many teams play, but the towns of many of the Class A schools are smaller than many of the Class AA schools that make it.

Yes it is. If you're getting at what I think you're getting at, I agree with you.

Big schools are almost all in the metro area. Which means that they have a large population who could potentially come watch them and a relatively short drive to do so. A lot of small schools are outstate and don't have the population following them that the big schools have. Some of the following that they do have might be deterred by the drive. That is the reason AA fills up and A does not.

There any team that can upset STA???

How about DMarshall, Falls, Warroad, Hermantown, St. Cloud Cathedral, Hibbing, etc., etc., etc. I mean, we're not talking about Jefferson circa 1992-94 here.

Those were the days. That's what Minnesota High School hockey was all about. The Bianchi's. ha ha. That name just sounds funny, so I remembered it from Bloomington. Are they related to the travel people, Bianchi-Rossi Tours?

mnmouth, the thread was started asking about winning the section. The should get the #1 seed at state, although #2 is possible, and any number of teams making it could give them a great run for their money. That being said, it is just as comical to suggest someone may upset Hill for 4AA as it is to suggest St Thomas won't be the 4A representative for Class A.
