The clock is ticking, Santana is still not extended by the Mets, if they can not ink a deal by 4pm Fri, Santana could remain a Twin and void Tues's deal.
The Red Star seems to think he'll sign for $130 million, the rumor is his agent is looking for $150 million. Santana knows he'll get more if he goes on the open market after this season.
Don't buy your Gomez jersey yet Govs.

Haven't ordered a Gomez jersey yet - Mrs. Govs and I are still perfectly happy with the BOOOOOOF jersey.
Let's not get too excited here fellas. We're still talking about a New York team who is moving into a new stadium in a year... I have a felling there are plenty of resources to come to a resolution. This thing should get get. If not? Well, in that case the Twins have a 1 year window to get it done before they're screwed again.
If the Mets can't get a deal done, I suppose you could turn toward Boston or the Yankees again, but you can bet that if they know one other team is out of the picture, the deals that were on the table will be greatly reduced, and if they sense that Johan is going to be a pain in the @$$ when it comes to negotiations, they may not bother at all.

if Santana Comes back, Dont Resign him, Trade him to Boston for the Ellsbury Deal or to the Yankees for the Hughes/Cabrera Deal, would be a hell of alot better than what we got from the Mets.

Since Santana has gone this far, I can see him taking the hardline and not budging on years or $$$ since he will get it next year anyway. Personally, I think the Mets are screwed if they don't start digging and the Twins will be somewhat screwed because they will have a pitcher that doesn't want to be there. As for trading him to Boston or New York, being a Yankees fan, I'd love to have him on my team, but I believe he still has the no trade clause. So if he doesn't want to go and wants to screw the Twins, he can.

He won't screw the Twins, the Pohlads are the only ones that are good at that. He will be a Met by the end of the day.

You have to say this if the trade falls through and he plays this season in Minnesota (which I still don't believe will happen)...
The Twins become immediate AL conteders this season.
There's no question about it... Johan has to realize that he's in for a huge payday after this season regardless, but if he can manage to put up 20 wins, keep his ERA in the 2's, and strike his usual 200, he's going to up that 2009 contract to an unreal level. So will he "screw" the Twins? in 2009, he most definitely will, but for 2008, he'll never have more incentive to pitch well, and with a damn good 2-3-4-5 in the lineup there should be more offense. The enitre bullpen is returning, and they were one of the best in MLB last year. Scott Baker has finally shown consistency, Liriano is back, and BOOOOOOF dropped a few Big Macs - all he should have to do is go 6 innings this year, and turn it over.
They won't have the "sexy" names like Detroit or Cleveland, but I'll put the Twins up against them this season with Santana in the rotation.
2009? Well... at least we'll only be a year away from the new park at that point!

Well said Govs, Plus in order for Santana to have a huge pay day he will have to have his best season in order to get the most ching.

I dont disagree, even if it was Govs that said it.
But if so, why trade him? Id rather have a great seson and a possiblle World Series than 4 maybe never prospects.

Twins trying to move Santana for prospects and I hear the Indians are making a push for Bedard.
If this gets done and the Indians get Bedard, the gap will be too wide for this season...maybe the Twins can get the Wild Card though.

Fogg, now that's a Twins move, why not do a deal to bring in Bedard and offer him the $100 million Johan didn't want.
