Who is going to take home the Championship?

The first two games in the WBL Peewee A tourney are on tap tonight with Edina playing Centennial and Eden Prairie playing Lakeville South. These two games will be interesting because Edina has been struggling lately. Centennial was beaten soundly in the Edina Tourney losing 7-3 to Lakeville South, 12-1 to the 95 Fire and 5-1 to Eden Prairie. As one of the top teams of D10, they have a lot of reasons to play well. Edina lost the D6 championship to Eden Prairie on the last day of the regular season last week and could be in a funk. These are ideal conditions for an upset.

In the second game, Eden Prairie buried Lakeville South in the Edina Tourney, 6-2 ending what little hope South had in that tourney. South has been 7-3-1 since then including a sound beating of the Colorado Thunder 6-2. They will have some pride on the line in tonight’s game. Eden Prairie has been celebrating their D6 championship. They earned that celebration last week by taking three D6 games including beating Edina 2-1. But they have been up and down, losing to Elk River, Cloquet, and TRF among others the week before.

Both Centennial and South could win tonight and it wouldn’t surprise me.

So what's the estimate for games running late? This tourney can never get it right, they don't pad in any time for OT. I say that Friday & Saturdays games will be 1 hour behind by the time the last scheduled game starts!

Centennial has to improve over the level of play dispayed by them during the Edina tournament. Edina has improved theirs, so my opinion is that Centennial has little chance to win, with South having a a better chance, but still losing to EP. I say Wayzata plays up to their potental and wins this tournament.

Edina wins 8-2, EP wins 5-2.

Hornets 3-0 OVER Centennial Final

EP 3-2 OVER Lakeville South Final

Centennial pushed Edina for a period and half before fading in the last half of the second period and ended up losing 3-0. The Cougars lost the physical part of the game in that eight minute stretch that broke the game open. The third period was evenly skated. Edina scored in the final goal in the opening minute of third on a deflection from the point. I found out from some parents that Centennial had eight first year players on their team this year. They should be good next year and may still make some waves in the D10 playoffs.

Lakeville South just didn’t have the balance strength in their three lines that they had earlier in the season. They scored on a Eden Prairie miscue to get the opening goal and lead at 1-0, but as the first period wore on Eden Prairie was forcing the play and eventually scored twice to take a 2-1 lead at the break. Eden Prairie won 3-2, but I left at the break and didn’t see the last two periods. I was surprised to see the final game score showed that the teams skated even in the last two periods.

Tonight the peewee A’s have the late games with the opening game between White Bear Lake and Duluth East starting at 7:45. Both teams have been struggling although both are in the top of their respective districts. In D2, WBL is in second, trailing North St. Paul and Duluth East has won the D11 title beating Hermantown last night 1-0. White Bear had struggled a month ago in the Edina Tourney, losing to Wayzata 6-0, Lakeville North 7-4, and the Colorado Thunder.

Duluth East had a better Edina Tourney tying the Fargo Flyers and the Rochester Red, before losing to Edina 7-1. But they had a bad game last week in losing to Apple Valley 5-0. The referees put Apple Valley at a disadvantage by calling sequential penalties for two periods resulting in Duluth East having a 26 minute power play over the last two periods. For five minutes of the 26, East had a 5-3 man advantage. They couldn’t score a goal, but Apple Valley scored three short handed goals. This game with White Bear Lake is a toss-up.

Rochester Red draws Wayzata in the late game. This is the more interesting of the two games. Rochester has always made a run at this time of the year as they focus on a state tourney bid. They have a tough D8 to play through to get to the East Region, but if they do, they could end up playing Wayzata again. Wayzata was beaten by Eagan a week ago in the Duluth Tourney, but has been playing well all season. The question this game could answer is how well prepared Wayzata will be for D3 playoffs and should they win, the East Regional.

By the way, as a result of the Duluth East/Apple Valley game the refs forced the Apple Valley head coach to sit out the next game. Too many penalties.

Are you sure it wasn't Apple Valley's players that forced the head coach to sit out the next game?

Not sure how this forum ended up with a conversation on Apple Valley - there aren't even in the Whie Bear Lake tourney. Start a different post on that situation

You must be reading more into some of his posts than others.

Fred if you want to go to Alex this weekend I am not able to go but would like to read your game summary of the kids games.

My point was less about Apple Valley and more about Duluth East. They are in a tough tourney, but yet with a 26 minute power play, the East could not score while Valley scored three short handed goals. That does not bode well for them tonight or this weekend even if they import the sames refs from D11 that called the Valley game.

EP 2 Wayzata 1; EP Goalie played very well.

Not only did the goalie for EP play good, but all the kids played great. Good win by the Eagles.

Then Eagan beat them to advance to Championship. Please when you talk, know what you are talking about. Money on the line EAGAN BEAT THEM. WOODBURY CAN TALK. THEY WON THE TOURNAMENT.


Eagan won the Alex Tournament today 6-3 over Rosemount.

EP goalie was the difference in the championship against Wayzata.

Wayzata is the better team, but came up short today.

Wayzata was the better team. EP won 2-1. I hate when after someone loses they are proclaimed the better team. Patriots are the better team....not when it counts. Congrats EP, you are the better team on Feb 3rd and no one can tell you that you aren't the best team at the Whitebear Tourney.
