Are there any rules for setting up a AAA team. When can they practice? When can they do tryouts? Can they play on 2 teams....(local Association and the AAA team)

I've heard supposed rules(rumors).....who governs this.....Where are they published?

There are many rules for establishing a Tier I (AAA) team. The first, and probably most important, is that they must be sactioned by the governing body (MN Hockey, WAHA, ...).

Regarding playing on an association team and a Tier I team - this is not allowed per USA Hockey rules.

Tryouts are post season and usually in the spring or early summer.

Minnesota has made a rule banning aaa hockey teams during the regular season. If you want to play on a aaa team basically the fire is the only local option, they still play because they play in wisconsin (technically) but they play in alot of mn tournamants. they can get away with this cuz they have the required 30%(or something like that) of wisconsin players who r on it. I know team midwest used to be a team but they had to stop, because of this rule. also you can only play on one registered team at a time as a real player(you can still just be a practice player and play on another team), some people play mites in their association and play squirt a for a aaa team, but you need to be really good. Some of these rules may have changed but I am pretty sure on them.

You cannot be associated with USA Hockey when doing such.
Therefore no usa hockey officials, no usa hockey insurance, etc...
One at a time : For example you should check to see if a showcase team is sanctioned with USA hockey, if so... they cannot have a practice as that team at the same time.

This does not stop you from having 3 kids from Monticello, 3 from Rogers, 3 from St Cloud, and 6 from Elk River get together on Sunday night and play hockey, calling themselves the " Iceshavers" and having a good time while a dad rented the ice.

Are you saying that there are twice as many good players in Elk River as there is in Monticello, Rogers or St.Cloud

Showcase is not sactioned by USA hockey. This is why the refs don't wear their crests for these games. I hope all the players have their own insurance when they go on the ice for showcase.

When I brought a team into Showcase a few years back I was told that they have pretty much the same insurance policy as USA Hockey. Once I turned in my roster the players and coaches were covered. Not much however, just like USA Hockey it is only secondary coverage.
