Too many assists?

Looking at stats there seem to be 2 assists awarded to most goals. Usually twice as many assists as goals in a game. Are they usually legit?

There's only too many unless Ness is on the ice.

Well, maybe you could clear up for this non-hockey player the definition of an assist instead of being rude. I think of an assist as directly assisting in the goal, not "oh, these were the last two guys to touch the pucks in the 15 seconds before he scored."

Phantom assists exist like I already stated. But who is going to go to all of the games to keep stats making sure they don't occur? Nobody!

Just remember there is no I in team. There is a T, and an E, and an A, and even an M, but there is no I in team. There is no I in hockey, period. There is an I in period. And there are periods in hockey. And there are teams in periods. But there is no I in team, period. The I is in the beholder.

There are too many assists up on the Range. Hibbing gets a penalty shot and the goal has two assists...

That's just dead wrong!
Only
one assist should be awarded there. (The guy who places the puck at center ice)
Can just see guys scrambling to do that from now on.

I don't think there has been "too many assists" in fact it has been refreshing to see the officials doing a better job of this than they have the last four - five years. There have been thousands of deserved assists that weren't reported probably still are but if they are handing out more then great!! If they are deserving why not, if they are phantom that's my only beef.

The answer to the question is: It Depends.
Was the goal scored by the completely offensive team or the completely defensive team?
