As one option.

Just hope that everybody doesn't get their hopes up for it.

One can only hope, but like most things that get proposed within the white bear area commuity, support is often lacking. I think if this is done right, and the people get behind it, this can happen. I think its a community rich within its program, and deserves an opportunity, along with Mounds View to showcase their programs!

I would be very curious to see where the funds will come from!

Honestly, its a perfect location! easy access.... centrally located... and right next to Jimmys for a bump!

Anybody know what the chances are of this ever being built?

I would say it has a pretty good chance, good location like people have said, certainly big enough land to develop it on, but the only thing you would have to wait on is for this unweave the weave construction to be over with, which who knows how long that will be, since some of there construction stuff is currently located on the location.

I hope it passes, which means we wouldnt share the same rink with those private hoodlums..........

The 35E & 694 project will be done this coming fall.

They probably have even more land at the old I.C. Systems location.

I don't understand why this would be Moundsviews rink too. I know there rink is crappy but wouldn't you think they would want something a little closer to their city or school?

It says nothing about it in the article, but I'm sure the answer is an easy one... money.

I would guess Ramsey County and the City of Vadnais Heights will foot the bill for most of it - all Mounds View and WBL have to is throw some change at it, and they can throw their names permanently onto a lockerroom door.

It will be Mounds View and White Bears because people that live in certain parts of Vadnais Heights have the option to send their kids to either HS. This whole idea is great, it would just be better if WB could have their own as selfish as that sounds.

So are people speculating that Ramsey County will get involved?

I didn’t see them mentioned anywhere in the article but they are already funding 3 facilities spanning the noted area. It’s hard to imagine that they would be eager to get involved in any new build. It wasn’t that long ago that they were looking to close a number of the rinks that they maintain due to budget matters.

As I see it, the county being “in or out” will be critical to the success of a rec center project that has an ice arena. Even if they are not financially involved, a new sheet could adversely impact the county rinks. It might just give the county a reason to shut one or more down.
